Coast guard vessel hit ECKERÖ
FerryA medium sized vessel from the Swedish Coast Guard, KBV 202, hit Eckerö Line’s ferry ECKERÖ at around 10:00 a.m. on 4 March, while the ferry was berthed in Grisslehamn. The allision caused damage to the hull above the waterline of ECKERÖ, forcing the ferry to remain out of service for the rest of the day.
According to the Swedish Coast Guard, the incident was caused by a technical failure on board KBV 202. The case has now been handed over to Sweden’s maritime accident investigation authorities, who will determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The 12,358 GT ECKERÖ, built in 1979, operates on the route between Grisslehamn (north of Stockholm) and Eckerö in the Åland Islands. No injuries were reported.
