BC Ferries replaces CEO and launches system review
FerryBC Ferries' board has replaced chief executive Nicolas Jimenez and launched what it calls a Revitalization Review of the company. Brian Anderson, vice-president of strategy and planning, has been appointed interim chief executive with immediate effect, BC Ferries announced on 26 October.
Executive vice-president and chief financial officer Dallyn Willis takes on added responsibility for strategy and planning and will lead the review, with oversight from the board. According to a statement from board chair Cathy McLay, the review is intended to "address growing demands on the ferry system" and to define new ways to optimise the system and how BC Ferries delivers its services. A formal search for a permanent chief executive will follow the review. Jimenez joined BC Ferries from the provincial insurer ICBC in 2023.
The change comes two days after the provincial election on 24 October. In Elections BC's preliminary, unofficial results, the B.C. Conservatives lead in 63 of the 93 electoral districts. BC Ferries says the board will work with the incoming provincial government, the BC Ferry Authority and the BC Ferries Commissioner on Performance Term 7, the four-year regulatory period from April 2028 to March 2032 that sets limits on fare increases and required service levels. BC Ferries filed its submission for the period on 30 September, and the Commissioner's preliminary price cap decision is expected by 31 March 2027.
