Austal delivers BAJAMAR EXPRESS
High-speedAustal Australia has delivered Hull 394, the 118-metre BAJAMAR EXPRESS to Fred. Olsen Express, the company announced today, 7 July 2020. The vessel was contracted in October 2017 and is the first of two identical high-speed trimaran ferries. The BAÑADEROS EXPRESS (Hull 395) will be delivered from Austal Philippines in Balamban, Cebu in the first half of 2021. Once the BAÑADEROS EXPRESS joins the fleet, Fred. Olsen Express will be operating five Austal vessels, thereof three trimarans.
The new trimarans feature multiple bars, kiosks, a retail shop and children’s play area. They can carry up to 1,100 passengers and 276 cars at a service speed of 37 knots. The vessel was able to reach trial speeds in excess of 44 knots, benefitting from Austal’s new MARINELINK-Smart technology, providing real-time analysis of the vessel’s performance.
According to the CEO of Fred. Olsen S.A., Andrés Marín, the BAJAMAR EXPRESS is being “eagerly awaited in the Canary Islands.” She will commence operations between Santa Cruz, Tenerife and Agaete, Gran Canaria, immediately upon arrival in August 2020.
