BC Ferries’ latest acquisition to be upgraded by Esquimalt Drydock
NORTHERN SEA WOLF – BC Ferries’ newest vessel that is expected to arrive in Victoria, Canada, later today following a 10,09-nautical mile delivery voyage which started in Piraeus on 3 November – will be upgraded for her new role by Esquimalt Drydock.
Incat completes hull No. 90 bound for Port Phillip Ferries
BELLARINE EXPRESS, a 35m, 400-passenger high-speed catamaran, has been completed by Incat. The fast ferry is bound for Melbourne-based ferry operator Port Phillip Ferries.
Condor Ferries temporarily adds ARROW and puts CONDOR LIBERATION back into service
Condor Ferries has announced that it is adding capacity over Christmas and New Year in the form of the chartered, 1,057-lanemetre ARROW. Following a drydocking of more than six weeks, the 102m trimaran CONDOR LIBERATION will also be put back into service today, 15 December.
Corsica Linea about to say goodbye to a very successful year!

STAVANGERFJORD ‘2.0’ re-delivered to Fjord Line
Following a conversion which started on 1 November, Fosen Yard in Rissa, Norway, has handed STAVANGERFJORD back to Fjord Line on 13 December. The ship took up service again on Fjord Line’s Bergen-Stavanger-Hirtshals-Langesund route the 14th of December.
Baleària temporarily closes Almeria-Melilla route
Baleària has announced that it is suspending sailings between Almeria and Melilla until 25 December. It would appear that this route is a casualty caused by the continuing problems that the REGINA BALTICA continues to have.
Africa Morocco Link suspends Almeria-Nador service
Rumours had circulated that the DIAGORAS, the vessel operating for Africa Morocco Link (AML) between Almeria and Nador, was to return to Greece on 26 December, and that she might be substituted by the NISSOS CHIOS, currently in drydock.
Captain Cook Cruises takes delivery of NANCY WAKE
The 27m catamaran passenger ferry NANCY WAKE has been delivered to Captain Cook Cruises, part of the SeaLink Travel Group, and has commenced operations on Sydney Harbour.
HORDALAND withdrawn from service following grounding
The 1,184gt double-ender HORDALAND ran aground on Thursday 7 December en route from Årsnes to the island of Varaldsøy.
‘Nomadic’ OLYMPUS sold to breakers
The 1980-built OLYMPUS has been sold to breakers after having spent the last four and a half years laid up in Adabiya, Egypt.
Brittany Ferries secures Société Générale and European Investment Bank financing for HONFLEUR
The EU, through the European Investment Bank (EIB), has granted a loan of EUR 49.5m as part of the EUR 750m Green Ship Guarantee programme (GSG) to Brittany Ferries.
Fully-electric GLOPPEFJORD and EIDSFJORD delivered from Tersan Shipyard
The two fully-electric ferries, GLOPPEFJORD and EIDSFJORD, built for Norwegian ferry company Fjord 1 have been delivered by the Turkish Tersan Shipyard and are on their way to their new homewaters.
Chinese connection for Chilean operators
The semi-submersible heavy-lift carrier SUN SHINE left Asia on 11 December with a load of four small ferries that are destined for Chilean operator Somarco.
Keel laid for polar expedition vessel HONDIUS
On 11 December, Brodosplit laid the keel for hull number 484. Built for Oceanwide Expeditions, and to be named HONDIUS, she will be the first vessel to meet the latest and highest polar classification level, Polar Class 6.
Austal and JR Kyushu Jet Ferry establish a MoU to develop new high-speed trimaran
Austal Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JR Kyushu Jet Ferry to develop a new high-speed trimaran passenger ferry concept for JR Kyushu Jet Ferry’s South Korea to Japan route.
Golden Star Ferries acquires KAROLIN
Greek ferry operator Golden Star Ferries is further expanding its fleet and has bought Linda Line’s KAROLIN, a 353-seat passenger-only high-speed catamaran.
Roads body to buy Manly Fast Ferry
The Sydney, New South Wales-based National Roads & Motorists Association (NRMA) is to buy Manly Fast Ferry (MFF) from founding owners the Ford family for an undisclosed price.
CLdN to increase sailings and capacity on Zeebrugge-Gothenburg route
CLdN is poised to further expand its short-sea ro-ro network and as from 1 January 2018, it will increase the number of weekly sailings on the Zeebrugge-Gothenburg route from three to four.
Cross-Channel ferry PRIDE OF KENT ran aground in the Port of Calais
In the early afternoon of Sunday 10 December, P&O Ferries’ Dover-bound PRIDE OF KENT grounded in the Port of Calais shortly after having left her berth in high winds caused by Storm Ana.
Shippax understands that PRIDE OF KENT suffered damage to a propeller shaft with slight water ingress at two points of the hull. In the afternoon of 12 December, PRIDE OF KENT sailed from Calais to Dunkerque to undergo repairs.
Adler-Schiffe acquires high-speed catamaran RENØY
Family-controlled Adler-Schiffe has announced the acquisition of the 1999-built high-speed catamaran RENØY from Norwegian interests.
Bass Island Line ‘bargain’ for King Island service
The Tasmanian Government-owned TasPorts says it has saved millions on the cost of a new Bass Island Line (BIL) vessel for the King Island (KI) trade and expects it to be in service in the first quarter of 2018.
TT-Line's Spirit replacements accelerated
Tasmania’s TT-Line has brought forward by two years its plans to replace the ro-paxes SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and II and will place orders at an unnamed yard early in 1H 2018.
