Transmanche Ferries to continue under the DFDS umbrella for another five years
The Syndicat Mixte de Promotion de l’Activité Transmanche (SMPAT) has given the green light to DFDS to continue the so-called DSP (Délégation de Service Public) or the public service delegation contract for the Dieppe-Newhaven route for another five years.
UPDATED: Stena Line might re-open the Halmstad route as it will no longer be welcome in Varberg
The municipality of Varberg has now made a conclusive termination of the contract with Stena Line. The contract ends 30 September 2019 and a letter of intent has been signed for the move to Halmstad.
Fincantieri delivers MSC SEASIDE… and announces two more newbuilds for MSC Cruises
MSC Cruises took delivery of MSC SEASIDE from Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard. During the handover ceremony, an announcement was also made for the construction of two further cruise ships, which will be an evolution of the Seaside-Class: the 169,380gt Seaside EVO-Class.

Drydocking completed for new look SAGA SAPPHIRE
Saga Cruises’ 650-passenger SAGA SAPPHIRE underwent a two-week overhaul and refit at Lloyd Werft and left Bremerhaven for Southampton 30 November.
Portucalence becomes Med Lines and Golden Star Ferries confirms acquisition of third high-speed craft
Greek Portucalance Shipping Company has been rebranded Med Lines. The company’s two ships are undergoing major upgrades at Neos Molos Drapetsonas in Drapetsona, Greece and are expected to be introduced in the Aegean Sea.
Port of Ystad expands with new areas for vehicles and warehouses
To keep up with the increased demand, Port of Ystad has inaugurated a new enlarged area of 33,000m² for vehicles to use before check-in, together with a 23,000m² area housing two warehouses of 5,120m² each.
Management change at Rauma Marine Constructions
The wholly Finnish-owned shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) have made significant management changes.

Hurtigruten will expand its routes along the Norwegian coast with the brand-new hybrid expedition ships ROALD AMUNDSEN and FRIDTJOF NANSEN.
AIDA ready to start using LNG when alongside in Mediterranean ports
Following the first successful tests, AIDA Cruises’ AIDAperla will run on LNG while docked at the ports of Barcelona, Marseille and Civitavecchia. The German cruise operator is also currently in discussion with authorities in Palma de Mallorca. Bunkering will be performed by tanker trucks.
Works on new Gdynia ferry terminal to commence later this year
Construction works on the new public ferry terminal in the port of Gdynia are scheduled to commence soon, as revealed by Adam Meller, president of Port of Gdynia Authority (Zarzad Morskiego Portu Gdynia - ZMPG), with the construction expected to take approximately two and a half years.
UPDATED: Elb-Link’s future uncertain once again
Elb-Link filed for bankruptcy on 27 November 2017 at the District Court of Cuxhaven after the latest rescue attempts for the operator failed. The 49 employees will most likely lose their jobs.
Molslinjen’s ferries approved for the Ystad-Bornholm route
As of 1 September next year Molslinjen will take over the Ystad to Bornholm route from Færgen. The three high-speed ferries earmarked for the route, EXPRESS 1, EXPRESS 2 and MAX MOLS, have been approved for service by the Swedish Transport Agency.
UPDATED: Trasmediterranea’s Gandia-Ibiza route to be continued until 1 October
The ferry service will run again also next year, throughout the easter holidays and then again from 15 June – 15 September.
There will be a daily service throughout the week as there was this summer, with two crossings each weekend.
Saaremaa investigates a possible ferry connection with Latvia
Saaremaa, the largest island in Estonia, is reportedly investigating the interest from shipping companies to establish a ferry connection with Latvia.
Princess Cruises' fourth Royal Princess-Class vessel to be named SKY PRINCESS
Debut will be in the mediterranean in October 2019.
The fifth Royal Princess-Class vessel is currently under construction and will debut in 2020, the sixth in 2022.
