Fred. Olsen Express’ next generation trimaran taking shape at Austal
Austal has commenced construction with the first metal cut for the first of two 117-metre trimarans Fred. Olsen Express ordered in fall 2017. When delivered in 2020, the two ships will join the larger Austal-built trimaran BENCHIJIGUA EXPRESS in Fred. Olsen’s Canary Islands trade.

The end of the summer high season and, in particular, of the OPE (Crossing of the Straits) usually means that vessels are moved around to allow for drydocking and to match capacity with demand. Chartered-in vessels may also be returned and lines may even withdraw from certain routes. These are some of the first such movements with the end of summer 2018:
Scotland’s Northern Isles ferry contract out to tender
The Scottish Government tendering process for the contract to undertake the Northern Isles ferry services from 2019 through to 2027 is underway after the publication of the contract notice. The current contract, awarded in 2012 was won by Serco.
Corsica Ferries to serve Sicily from Toulon and Nice
Corsica Ferries is further expanding its network in the Western Mediterranean. As of 21 April 2019, the Bastia-headquartered ferry company will add a seasonal service from Toulon and Nice to Trapani which will be operated up to three times per week.
DFDS reviews Belgium-UK-Norway operations
DFDS has reviewed its Belgium-UK-Norway services and will introduce the 1,891-lanemetre FINLANDIA SEAWAYS – withdrawn from Zeebrugge-Rosyth following her engine room fire and immediate closure of the route in mid-April – on a weekly Zeebrugge-Immingham-Brevik-Frederikstad-Halden-Brevik-Zeebrugge rotation.
Fjord1 secures NOK 2.26 billion ferry contract
Fjord1, Norway’s leading domestic ferry operator, has secured yet another major ferry contract package in the Møre og Romsdal county.

Strongest ever Q3 result for Carnival Corporation
Revenues for the third quarter of 2018 were USD 5.8 billion, higher than the USD 5.5 billion in the prior year. GAAP net income of USD 1.7 billion, or USD 2.41 diluted EPS, for the third quarter of 2018, higher than U.S. GAAP net income for the third quarter of 2017 of USD 1.3 billion, or USD 1.83 diluted EPS.
Anek reports improvement, but sinks into the red
Group turnover for the first half was EUR 72.9 million versus EUR 65.3 million in the comparable period of the previous year. Respectively, the parent company's turnover came in at EUR 66.9 million, compared to EUR 58 million a year earlier. Consolidated gross results in the 2018 first half saw a profit of EUR 8.4 million versus one of EUR 400,000 first half of 2017, while the ferry side's gross was EUR 7.2 million overturning the loss of EUR 400,000 recorded in the 2017 first half.
Attica seeing results of HSW acquisition
Attica Group lifted consolidated revenue in the first half of 2018 by 15% to EUR 131.68 million as traffic volumes in all sectors increased as the company consolidated the June results of Hellenic Seaways (HSW) into its first half interim results. With fuel price continuing to rise, in the six months Attica's EBITDA came in at EUR 8.81 million against EUR 7.07 million in the 2017 first six months.
