Trinidad & Tobago to sell INCAT 046 - T&T EXPRESS

Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Keith Rowley has announced that the country will sell the Incat 91 wave piercing catamaran INCAT 046, the trading name of which is T&T EXPRESS.

More TEUs and new cars but less passengers for Port of Gothenburg

During the first half of 2018 (January-June), the container throughput (expressed in TEU) in the Port of Gothenburg increased by 19%, while the number of new cars and intra-European ro-ro units rose by 10% and 4%, respectively. In terms of tonnage, there a is a slight decrease to 20.6 million tonnes. Passenger numbers fell from 729,000 to 679,000, with cruise ship calls going from 21 to 17.

Bornholmslinjen’s HAMMERSHUS delivered

Bornholmslinjen’s new EUR 68 million ro-pax ferry HAMMERSHUS has been delivered by Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) and left the Finnish yard for Køge on 22 August, in time to take over the Bornholm concession that will start on 1 September.

Seajets is the buyer of Færgen’s VILLUM CLAUSEN

In December 2017 Shippax reported that the 86m high-speed Bornholm ferry VILLUM CLAUSEN had been sold to an unknown buyer in the Mediterranean. The buyer has now been revealed and is no one else than Greek operator Seajets.

On 16 August Japan Marine United (JMU) delivered SUNFLOWER KIRISHIMA to Ferry Sunflower. The newbuild is a sister ship of the 13,659grt SUNFLOWER SATSUMA which entered service on the 581km Osaka-Shibushi route on 15 May 2018.

Port of Turku plans joint terminal for Viking Line and Silja Line

The Finnish Port of Turku has unveiled an ambitious development programme and the key players - Viking Line Abp, Tallink Silja Oy, Port of Turku Ltd and the City of Turku - have therefore signed a joint letter of intent to increase the attractiveness of the area. Viking Line’s and Silja Line’s separate terminals will make room for a single, state-of-the-art terminal.

Torghatten places order at Sefine

Torghatten Trafikkselskap has signed a contract with the Turkish Sefine Shipyard for an 84.3-metre long ferry. Of the Multi Maritime MM 74FE EL type, the ferry will be named HEILHORN and service the Vennesund to Holm route as of the summer of 2020.

Further delay for LNG-powered GLEN SANNOX, while Ardrossan Harbour gets the green light for major improvements

The UK’s first LNG-powered ferry, CalMac’s 102.4m GLEN SANNOX, building Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd (FMEL), has been further delayed and will not enter service on the Ardrossan-Brodick service to the Isle of Arran until August 2019. Originally due in service in the autumn of this year, technical issues with the design of the ferry pushed delivery back to the spring of 2019. No details have been given as to the reason for the further delay.

Half year financial results for Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö

 1.503 million passengers travelled with the Group's three passenger ships (+8.5%). Freight units reached 45,903 (+12%). Turnover EUR 105.2 million (EUR 103.3 million). Operating profit EUR 2.4 million (EUR 0.7 million)

Strong growth for Fjord1 during 1H 2018

Total revenue for the first half of 2018 was NOK 1,505 million, compared to NOK 1,368 million in the first half of 2017. The improvement in revenue and margins resulted in an increase in EBITDA from NOK 448.6 million in the first half of 2017 to NOK 476.9 million in the first half of 2018.

LNG in the cruise industry: New cooperation with Wessels Reederei provides practical training at sea

AIDAnova is due to usher in a new era at the end of the year when it becomes the first cruise ship that can run on environmentally-friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG). To fully prepare the captains and officers for this technological changeover, a series of practical training sessions at sea started in June. The basis of this training project is a new cooperation between Carnival Maritime and Wessels Reederei, which is providing the LNG-powered container ship WES Amelie for training purposes.

Wärtsilä is building the Smart Technology Hub, a new centre of research, product development and production, in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa. As of 2020, all of Wärtsilä's functions and personnel in central Vaasa will transfer to the new hub, along with the logistics and maintenance workshop operations from Runsor.

Kongsberg Maritime: KONGSBERG Wins Contracts for Nine Hybrid Ro-Ro Vessels

Kongsberg Maritime has been awarded significant contracts with Nanjing Jinling Shipyard Co., China to deliver power and hybrid systems to nine (9) Roll on – Roll off (Ro-Ro) vessels ordered by Grimaldi Group, Italy. The contracts are valued at more than NOK 400 million and include an option for three additional vessels increasing the total value to more than NOK 500 Million.
