PZM unveils newbuilding plans for four LNG-fuelled/hybrid Ystad-max ferries
PZM (Polish Steamship Company/Polska Zegluga Morska) has revealed more details about the long-awaited order for a new ro-pax generation. State-owned PZM intends to order up to four LNG-fuelled/hybrid ro-paxes with a capacity of 3,600 lanemetres and 521 passengers.
Corsica Ferries ready to order two Bastia-max ro-paxes
Corsica Sardinia Ferries will turn 50 on 24 May and a week prior to its ‘golden anniversary’, Pierre Mattei, the Group’s CEO, Chairman of the Management Board and co-owner, has unveiled an ambitious newbuilding plan for minimum two ro-paxes. In a telephone interview with Shippax, Mr Mattei told that he expects delivery of the first ship in 2021.

In spite of low season, Minoan Lines in the black
The Grimaldi-owned company said operating profits (EBITDA) stood at EUR 5.1 million. During the three-month period, Minoan Lines' turnover at the consolidated level was EUR 15.5 million.
Red ink, but improved consolidated income for Viking Line during Q1 2018
Consolidated sales of the Viking Line Group for the period 1 January-31 March, 2018 were EUR 100.3 million (EUR 101.1 million). Consolidated income before taxes amounted to EUR -16.1 million (EUR -18.8 million). Income after taxes totalled EUR -12.9 million (EUR -15.1 million).
DFDS completed raising of equity for financial flexibility
DFDS has successfully completed the raising of equity to offer financial flexibility in connection with the acquisition of U.N Ro-Ro and a fleet renewal. Investors subscribed for 2,631,578 new shares at a price of DKK 380, raising gross proceeds of approximately DKK 1 billion. The new shares represent approximately 4% of DFDS’s registered share capital upon completion of the capital increase.
Capacity share agreement between TT-Line and Stena Line to be discontinued
TT-Line and Stena Line will each go their own way on the southern Baltic corridor route between Rostock and Trelleborg as the capacity share agreement will stop, effective 15 September. Stena Line, for its part, will introduce a modified timetable on 9 September.
Remontowa launches Transport for London’s two new hybrid double-enders
The two hybrid passenger/vehicle ferries building at Poland’s Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdansk for Transport for London’s (TfL) Woolwich Free Ferry service, DAME VERA LYNN and BEN WOOLLACOTT, were launched on 14 May.
New operator and modern ro-pax sought for Canada’s Strait of Belle Isle ferry service
The Regional Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is looking for a new operator and a larger, modern ice-class ro-pax to improve the ferry service across the Strait of Belle Isle in eastern Canada.
First hydrogen ferry to be introduced in 2021
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Vegvesen) has invited bids to operate the world’s first hydrogen-electric ferry service that will connect Hjelmeland with Nesvik and Skipavik in Rogaland, Norway.
Grimaldi concerned about security in the Port of Patras
The Grimaldi Group has raised concerns about security and safety in Greece’s Ionian Sea port of Patras, after a young Afghan was killed during an affray among immigrants trying to find a passage to Italy.
Austal to invest USD 30 million in capacity expansion
Australian shipbuilder Austal has announced a major USD 30 million capacity expansion, focused on the company’s commercial shipbuilding facilities in Henderson, Western Australia and Cebu, Philippines.
Havyard Shipyard delivered HUSAVIK
HUSAVIK, the first double-ender in the three-ship ‘MM 62 FD EL’ series built for Fjord1, was delivered from the Havyard Shipyard on 14 May.
Silversea orders third Muse Class at Fincantieri
Silversea Cruises has signed a contract to build a second sister ship of SILVER MUSE, Silversea’s highly acclaimed 596-guest flagship which was delivered by Fincantieri in April last year. A first sister ship, to be named SILVER MOON, was ordered at Fincantieri only eight months ago and is due for delivery in 2020.
P&O Ferries to increase capacity on the Zeebrugge-Teesport route
Hard on the heels of DFDS’s announcement to close the loss-making Zeebrugge-Rosyth service, P&O Ferries has stated that it will lift capacity on its Zeebrugge-Teesport route by almost 25% within the next month.
Torghatten Nord awarded NOK 408 million ferry contracts in Nordland
Norwegian fjord ferries specialist Torghatten Nord has just been awarded a three-year contract to operate ferry services in the southern part of Nordland county, a route package known as "Lille Helgelandspakken".
