Scottish MP poised to launch direct ro-pax connection between Scotland and Scandinavia
According to Scottish media, MSP Angus MacDonald from the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) has urged Transport Minister Humza Yousaf to call a meeting with ferry operators to explore the potential for a new direct ro-pax service between Scotland and Denmark, Norway or Sweden.

Bridgemans Services Group Limited has withdrawn its 81m wave piercing OCEAN FLOWER 2 from the Trinidad and Tobago waters for good following months of uncertainties, issues with OCEAN FLOWER 2 and a delayed tendering process. OCEAN FLOWER 2, the one-time STENA LYNX III which has a capacity of 670 passengers and 148 cars, is currently in Curacao with the owner looking to sell her.
Godby Shipping sells, extends charter and plans for future purchase

FRS has emerged as the buyer of MIRANDA. She will be introduced between Motril and Tangier Med later this month and is expected to arrive in Cadiz on 7 January.
C.T.M.A. VACANCIER fined for violating speed limit
The 1973-built, 11,481gt C.T.M.A. VACANCIER, operated by CTMA, has been fined by Transport Canada for violating the speed limit aiming at preventing whale deaths.
Fjord1 secures NOK 4.458m of bank financing
In an announcement on the Oslo stock exchange, the Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 declared it has secured bank financing from DNB and Nordea for a sum of NOK 4.458m.
Austal to build 49m high-speed catamaran of SNC Aremiti
Austal Limited has landed an AUD 30m contract to design and build a new 49m, 620-passenger high-speed catamaran for SNC Aremiti which has been operating ferry services between Tahiti and Moorea since 1991.
Record year for P&O Ferries’ Zeebrugge-Tilbury route
Ever since its inception in July 2007, P&O Ferries’ dedicated freight line between Zeebrugge and Tilbury has gone from strength to strength. 2017 was yet another record year with more freight being carried than in any other year in the decade-long history of the route.
Molslinjen’s newbuild to be named HAMMERSHUS
Molslinjen’s new 158-metre ro-pax ferry for the Rønne-Køge and Rønne-Sassnitz services will be named HAMMERSHUS after the ruins of the old castle erected in the 1200’s in Bornholm.
Irish Continental orders 5,610-lanemetre ro-pax for the Dublin-Holyhead service
Irish Continental Group plc (ICG) has entered into an agreement with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesselschaft (FSG) to build an EUR 165.2m ro-pax ferry that will likely replace the 2001-built, 4,101-lanemetre ULYSSES on the Irish Sea’s Central Corridor between Dublin and Holyhead.

Tallink Grupp has announced an early repayment of loans, using the proceeds from the sale of STENA SUPERFAST VII and VIII to Stena.

A sale-purchase transaction was concluded on 28 December for the acquisition by Euroafrica Shipping Lines of the 1,780-lanemetre, 99-passenger PUGLIA.
ACL reviews rotations in Europe and axes Gothenburg
Atlantic Container Line (ACL), a Grimaldi Group subsidiary, has confirmed to Shippax that it will drop the Gothenburg calls with ATLANTIC SUN performing the last sailing out of the Swedish port on 15 January.

Naviera Armas has announced that it will introduce the high-speed craft VOLCAN DE TENO between the two Canary Island capitals – Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Political turn for Scottish ferries
The Scottish Government appears to be moving away from long-standing tendering processes for domestic ferry operations with Caledonian MacBrayne set to be awarded a new contract for Clyde and Hebridean services without tendering while the future procedure for routes to Orkney and Shetland, where Serco Northlink’s current contract has been extended by 18 months, is under consideration and could follow suit.
