The month of May sees the introduction of two new Japanese ferries
Two domestic ferries were recently delivered by Japanese shipyards.
AIDA Cruises welcomes AIDAperla
AIDAperla, possibly the last cruise ship that was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Nagasaki, has been handed over to AIDA Cruises.
Ferry-go-round in Spain
There is no better reason to move vessels around different routes than having to meet increased demand. Baleària has discovered this on the Barcelona-Alcudia-Ciutadella route, with the MARTIN I SOLER proving too small, with the vehicle decks constantly full.

Celestyal Cruises tapping into the Chinese passenger market
Celestyal Cruises and Cosco Shipping (that has a 51% stake in Piraeus Port Authority) have embarked on a programme to bring 50,000 Chinese cruise passengers to Greece annually as part of a plan to see increase its cruise traffic from 1 million passengers a year up to 1.5 million in the short-term and to 3 million long-term.
NORWEGIAN JOY ready to sail for China
Today, April 27, Meyer Werft delivered 3,883-passenger NORWEGIAN JOY to Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the brand’s fifteenth ship and the first custom-designed for the Chinese cruise market.
Month long USD 40m refit for Cunard's QUEEN VICTORIA
Cunard are sending the 90,049 gt QUEEN VICTORIA to Fincantieri's Palermo yard for a USD 40m month long refit starting on May 5 that will be highlighted by the creation of a new Lido Sun Deck area and a Winter Garden.
Ports of Stockholm expect record amount of cruise passengers in 2017
On April 30 the cruise season officially starts at the Ports of Stockholm with NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ORION.
TYCHO BRAHE docked for completion of battery conversion
The shipyard in Landskrona is now completing the remaining conversion and installation works on TYCHO BRAHE in order to have her fully battery-operated by the end of June.
ELEKTRA on sea trials
ELEKTRA, a 96.35m double-ender that is powered by three gensets or a bank of batteries which can be charged in just seven minutes, has left her builders Cryst Shipyard in Gdynia for sea trials on Monday evening, April 24.
Bari listed in U.N. RO-RO’s network as part of the Trieste-Pendik link
U.N. Ro-Ro has included a call at Bari as part of the existing Trieste-Pendik link.
Tirrenia charters WEDELLSBORG from Visentini
2,546-lanemetre WEDELLSBORG, a last generation ro-ro freighter delivered by Cantieri Navale Visentini in 2014, has been chartered by Onorato Armatori.
Fred. Olsen drops UK ports including Falmouth
Falmouth is one of a number of ports dropped by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines for its 2018 ex- UK programme with Tilbury, Harwich, and Belfast also omitted. Although two April cruises by BOUDICCA are currently taking place there will be no return in next year with the operator putting the blame partly on the lack of dedicated cruising facilities.
New owner wants to take Fjord1 to the stock exchange
Last year Per Sævik bought Fjord1, the largest ferry company in Norway. Now he wants to list 49% of the shares on the Oslo stock exchange.
Molslinjen’s EXPRESS 4 now in production
While EXPRESS 3 has just been finished and now on its way from Incat Tasmania to Aarhus, Denmark, the work on EXPRESS 4 started today April 24 at the Australian Austal yard with cutting of the first piece of aluminium.
VOLCAN DE TAMASITE crashed into a pier following an electrical failure
The VOLCAN DE TAMASITE of Armas suffered an electrical failure and couldn’t avoid an allision with the pier when approaching Las Palmas de Gran Canaria shortly before 20:30 on Friday April 21.
Montenegro Lines has signed an agreement with Jadrolinija to keep the Bar-Bari route open
As reported last week, Barska Plovidba (Montenegro Lines) has been left without a ferry following the class withdrawal of SVETI STEFAN II, the company’s sole ship.
