Celebrity Cruises unveils ‘all-outside’ purpose-built cruise ship for the Galápagos
Widely rumoured in shipbuilding circles, but now confirmed: Celebrity cruises has a 100-passenger ship on order at the Dutch De Hoop shipyard for delivery in May 2019.

MSC Cruises’ first Meraviglia-plus ship to be named MSC GRANDIOSA
On 15 November, MSC Cruises held two back-to-back ceremonies at STX France: the coin ceremony for MSC BELLISSIMA, the second ship in the Meraviglia generation and the steel cutting for the first Meraviglia-plus ship.

Wärtsilä has introduced a gas-fuelled version of their Wärtsilä 31 engine, the Wärtsilä 31SG. This follows very positive acceptance of the diesel version in marine sector applications. The Wärtsilä 31 has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s most efficient 4-stroke diesel engine.
Steam Packet to stay at Belfast
Despite intensive consultations and even visits to the port of Larne for berthing trials by 1998-built ro-pax vessel BEN-MY-CHREE and 96-metre Incat MANANNAN, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has decided to retain Belfast as the Northern Ireland terminal port for services from Douglas through the 2018 season.

Stena Line to increase capacity on the Rotterdam-Harwich route

Algerie Ferries’ (ENTMV) 1995-built TARIQ IBN ZIYAD was on her way from Marseille to Alger when a fire started in a passenger vehicle on 12 November.
UPDATED: Troubled start for brand-new SUNFLOWER SAPPORO
(Article first published 30 October 2017) Delivery of the 199.7m, 160-truck SUNFLOWER SAPPORO from Japan Marine United (JMU) was first scheduled for late August but for a variety of reasons this was delayed until 24 October.

Damen Shipyards Group has entered into a share purchase agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for the acquisition of its majority share in Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI).
FRS Caribbean add Grand Bahama Island to the itinerary
On 23 September FRS Caribbean, part of the FRS Group, started their Miami to Bimini (Bahamas) service - now (as of 9 November) they are also adding Freeport, Grand Bahama to the itinerary.
