P&O Ferries adds capacity on Zeebrugge-Teesport service

To meet customer demand P&O Ferries is poised to further boost capacity on its six times weekly ro-ro service between Zeebrugge and Teesport, currently operated by the chartered 1,625-lanemetre MISTRAL and 2,863-lanemetre BORE SONG.

Increased passenger carryings for GNV

During the GNV Awards, held on board GNV’s RHAPSODY, the MSC-controlled ferry operator announced that it had experienced a very strong summer, showing a 6.2% passenger increase with a total of 1.3 million passengers being carried for the June to September period.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard secures another major ro-pax contract

Hot on the heels of the delivery of the 31,000gt NEW GOLDEN BRIDGE VII to Weidong Ferry, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) announced that it has landed a new contract for a 27,000gt ro-pax earmarked for domestic service.

Color Line will obtain NOK 33.8 million to move goods from road to sea

The Norwegian Coastal Administration will grant a total of NOK 70.4 million to three actors that will move some 1.8 million tonnes from road to sea. Color Line is one of them and will obtain NOK 33.8 million spread over a three-year period.

Møre og Romsdal puts four more ferry routes out to tender

The Møre og Romsdal county in Norway has put the following route package out to tender: Festøya-Hundeidvika, Stranda-Liabygda, Eidsdal-Linge and Leknes-Sæbø-Skår-Trandal-Standal.

Rebranded U.N. Ro-Ro to introduce ‘Seaways’ names

U.N. Ro-Ro will be rebranded DFDS, a process that will take several years. The first ship to display the name and the livery of the new owners is the lengthened UN KARADENIZ. DFDS has also announced that all twelve ships in the U.N. Ro-Ro fleet will be renamed after Turkish UNESCO world heritage sites. In line with the rest of the DFDS fleet, the name will be followed by the Seaways suffix.

Polferries’ new NOVA STAR finally enters service

Following months of delays and uncertainty, Polferries’ chartered ro-pax NOVA STAR entered service on the Gdansk-Nynäshamn route on 14 September. Original plans were for the ferry to have entered service at the end of March, with the in-service date being changed nine times since then.

STENA VINGA introduced on the Gothenburg-Frederikshavn service

After a two-week refit at Oresund DryDocks, Landskrona, the former BornholmerFaergen’s HAMMERODDE was introduced as STENA VINGA between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn on 16 September, displaying a full Stena Line livery.

Canary Bridge Seaways to charter Seatruck’s CLIPPER PENNANT

Alistair Eagles, CEO of UK-based Seatruck Ferries has confirmed to Shippax that the company’s 2009-built, 1,830-lanemetre ro-ro CLIPPER PENNANT has been chartered to new Spanish ferry operator Canary Bridge Seaways from early November. He said that the “terms and length of the charter remain confidential.”

Stena charters SOMERSET

Stena Line has long-term chartered CLdN’s 2,475 lanemetre SOMERSET and will initially place her on the Europoort (Rotterdam)-Harwich route, joining the 1,511-lanemetre BORE BAY on 19 September.

Nichols Brothers launched the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC VENTURE

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC VENTURE, the sister ship of the 2017-built NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC QUEST, has been launched from Nichols Brothers Boat Builders in Freeland, WA. The ship will now be fitted out for delivery to Lindblad Expeditions at the end of the year.

Minoan Lines happily maintains steady course

Consolidated turnover in the first six months was EUR 35.9 million, up a shade on the EUR 35.5 million in the first half of 2017. The group's operating profit (EBITDA) was EUR 8.505 million down from EUR 9.68 million in the 2017 period while the net profit at EUR 1.854 million represents an improvement on the EUR 1.585 million a year ago.
