LaNaval to be put into administration
Spanish shipbuilders LaNaval will request the Spanish equivalent of the American ‘Chapter XI’, i.e. protection from creditors, after failing to attract any investors to rescue the yard.
Half year result for newly-listed Fjord 1 released
Fjord1 ASA has recorded a profit of NOK 239.4m in the first half of the year. This compares to NOK 141.5m for the same period last year.

NORTHERN SEA WOLF is the name chosen for the compact-size Greek vessel acquired by BC Ferries for the new mid-coast ferry service.
Trasmediterranea to open twice weekly Barcelona-Ciutadella route soon
Trasmediterranea has confirmed that it will start a Barcelona to Ciutadella (Menorca) service on 19 September this year.

Russians are developing a WIG craft that could operate as a ferry
A team of Russian developers has been working on the creation of a multipurpose sea-going ekranoplan, which could contribute significantly to the speed of seaborne traffic. The project, announced as unique, will be presented by MariNet, the National Technological Initiative (NTI) working group, at the upcoming International Exhibition NEVA-2017 in St. Petersburg.
GUTE introduced between Gdynia and Karlskrona
Stena Line has now introduced the time-chartered, 865-lanemetre GUTE as the fourth ship on the Gdynia-Karlskrona route, supplementing STENA VISION, STENA SPIRIT and STENA BALTICA.
Cunard to mark 50th anniversary of QE2 launch
The 50th anniversary of the launch of former Cunard flagship QUEEN ELIZABETH 2 is to be marked during a special Mediterranean cruise by the iconic company’s latest cruise ship, QUEEN ELIZABETH.
Trasmediterranea’s Gandia-Ibiza route to be continued until 1 October
Trasmediterranea opened the new Gandia-Ibiza route during the Easter holiday period. It was then stopped and resumed again in June.
Construction started on Stena’s first E-Flexer ro-pax
On Friday 25 August, a steel cutting ceremony was held at the Avic Weihai Shipyard, marking the start of the construction of the first of four ro-pax vessels Stena ordered at the Chinese yard in April 2016.
NISSOS CHIOS to stay on the Almeria-Nador route
Baleària has released its winter sailing schedules as far as January 2018 and, surprisingly, the schedules continue to show the NISSOS CHIOS operating between Almeria and Nador.
WORLD DREAM has left Meyer Werft’s covered building hall
WORLD DREAM, the second cruise ship for Dream Cruises built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, has left the yard’s covered building dock on Saturday 26 August.
Another high-speed ferry order for Austal’s Philippines shipyard
Austal Limited has bagged the fifth high-speed commercial ferry contract for Austal Philippines in just over 12 months.
KYK Line’s MARIMO launched
Kinkai Yusen Kaisha’s (KYK Line) new freight ro-ro ferry MARIMO took to the water at the MHI Shimonoseki shipyard on 23 August.
