Royal Caribbean Group Q2 financial results
Royal Caribbean Group reported revenues in Q2 of USD 4.11 billion (USD 3.52 billion). Net Income was USD 854 million (USD 459 million) and adjusted EBITDA USD 1.6 billion (USD 1.2 billion). 2,040,242 passengers were carried, compared to 1,900,810 in the same quarter last year.

The group’s unaudited consolidated revenue amounted to EUR 210.0 million (EUR 229.7 million in Q2 2023), down by 8.5% compared to the same period last year. The group’s unaudited EBITDA was EUR 46.6 million (EUR 68.5 million in Q2 2023) and the unaudited net profit for the period was EUR 6.1 million (EUR 33.4 million in Q2 2023).
The group’s vessels carried a total of 1,451,768 million passengers in the quarter (1,541,081 in Q2 2023), which is 5.8% less than in the same quarter in 2023. The cargo units carried by the company in Q2 2024 increased by 1.7% compared to the same period in the previous year, totalling 86,813 units in Q2 2024 (85,359 units in Q2 2023).
AMERICAN LIBERTY passes sea trials and readies for August cruise. AMERICAN LEGEND to follow in November 2024
American Cruise Lines announced that AMERICAN LIBERTY, the company’s 3rd new Coastal Cat has passed sea trials. American Cruise Lines accepted delivery of the 100-passenger small ship from Chesapeake Shipbuilding early. AMERICAN LIBERTY is the newest ship in American’s ongoing Project Blue series of 12 new small ships for river and coastal cruising in the U.S. Several more ships in the series are already under construction, including the 4th Coastal Cat, AMERICAN LEGEND, which is set to begin cruising in November 2024, plus four more Patriot Class ships.
Great demand for Finnlines’ day cruises to Åland – minor schedule adjustments
Finnlines’ day cruises to Åland have been popular since their start, and this summer they have seen a further increase in bookings. The shipping company announces that starting from 5 August, they will adjust the timetable to make the journey even smoother for travellers from Sweden.
Finnlines' latest additions to its fleet, FINNSIRIUS and FINNCANOPUS, began operating on the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route in late 2023 and early 2024. Day cruises are available from Sweden on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from Finland from Wednesday to Sunday.
Ferry REGULA additional trips in August 2024

The subsidiary of AS Tallinna Sadam, OÜ TS Laevad, signed an additional agreement with The Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agricultural based on which the public passenger transport service Ministry will order additionally up to 150 trips with the ferry REGULA on Virtsu-Kuivastu line from 5 August to 18 August 2024.
For additional trips in August, TS Laevad will earn a fixed fee of EUR 206 010, plus a voyage fee of EUR 465 per each trip. The parties have previously agreed that the fixed fee of TS Laevad for the period from 20 June to 4 August for additional trips is EUR 676,890, plus a voyage fee of EUR 465 per trip. Together with the additional fixed fee for the extended period, the maximum total amount for additional trips is EUR 1,127,025.
Fincantieri signs order with Carnival Corporation for three LNG-powered giant cruise ships
Fincantieri has signed an agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc for the design, engineering, and construction of three new cruise ships for the Carnival Cruise Line brand. The order is for a new class of LNG-powered vessels, which will be approximately 230,000 gross tonnes, the largest ships ever built by Fincantieri and an Italian shipyard, to be delivered in 2029, 2031 and 2033.
With over 3,000 guest cabins, the new vessels will carry almost 8,000 passengers at full capacity.
Six-month charter extension of ALFRED

Transport Scotland and CalMac have agreed a six-month extension to the charter of ALFRED, meaning the vessel will remain with the ferry operator until March 2025.
ALFRED, owned by Pentland Ferries, has primarily operated to and from Arran whilst on charter, sailing the Ardrossan/Troon - Brodick route.
SIKANIA II HYBRID for Bluferries launched

SIKANIA II HYBRID, built at the Kanellos Bros shipyard in Perama for Bluferries, has been launched. The ship will serve between Villa San Giovanni (Reggio Calabria) and Messina, Italy.
SIKANIA II HYBRID is designed by Greek naval architects C.T.E. Perdikaris and is a sister to the 2021-delivered SIKANIA. It measures approximately 105 metres in length and boasts a gross tonnage of 4,100gt. It is designed to transport 22 heavy vehicles or 125 cars and 400 persons.
DFDS lowers EBIT 2024 outlook range but maintains cash flow outlook
DFDS’ EBIT outlook range for 2024 has been lowered following a Q2 2024 result below expectations. The level of freight activity in the rest of the year is moreover expected to be below previous expectations.
The EBIT 2024 outlook range is consequently lowered to DKK 1.7-2.1bn from previously DKK 2.0-2.4bn.
On 9 February 2024, DFDS A/S announced the initiation of a share buyback programme to be executed. Under the programme, DFDS will repurchase own shares of up to DKK 431m during the period from 12 February 2024 to 31 December 2024.
Washington State Ferries selects ABB as propulsion single source vendor for five new hybrid ferries
ABB has been awarded a contract by Washington State Ferries (WSF) to serve as the propulsion single source vendor (PSSV) for its five new hybrid electric 1,500-passenger, 160-vehicle hybrid ferries. In its role as PSSV, ABB will supply comprehensive hybrid electric propulsion systems that include the Onboard DC Grid™ power distribution solution, energy storage, advanced energy management, and integrated marine automation.
Rauma shipyard launched SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V
Rauma shipyard celebrated the launch of the SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V with traditional ceremonies. The vessel's godmother is Barbara Baker, the 29th Governor of Tasmania. The vessel is the second of two car and passenger ferries ordered from the shipyard for Tasmania. The launch and christening ceremony of the first vessel, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV, was held last October. The vessels are being built for the Tasmanian TT-Line Company.
Tallinn and Helsinki Ports receive EU funding worth EUR 15.4 million
The TWIN-PORT VI project has received a funding decision from the EU. The four-year project is a continuation of the long-term cooperation between ports of Tallinn and Helsinki, aiming to reduce transport system emissions and to improve conditions for passenger and freight transport operations.
