Passengers can now reduce their emissions from travel by up to 90 per cent with Viking Line

Viking Line has started to offer passengers on its Turku-Åland-Stockholm route the option of purchasing renewable biofuel in proportion to the amount of fuel used for their journey and thus reduce the emissions from their travel by up to 90 per cent. European biogas, produced from waste materials, is being delivered by the Nordic energy company Gasum to the vessels VIKING GLORY and VIKING GRACE.

Finnlines has announced an agreement with NAPA to install their electronic reporting, fleet monitoring and stability management solutions on its two newbuild “Superstar-class” ro-pax vessels FINNSIRIUS and FINNCANOPUS which will operate between Finland and Sweden.

NAPA’s next-generation digital solutions will harness the detailed, traceable data in the ships’ logs on all aspects of operations, and use it to generate valuable insights on safety, efficiency, compliance, and sustainability thanks to enhanced data capturing and sharing between onboard and shoreside teams.

Gasum and the cruise division of MSC group partner for LNG and renewable e-LNG to achieve 2050 net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal

Gasum and the Cruise Division of MSC Group have signed a long-term agreement for the supply of LNG to the new flagship of its MSC Cruises brand, MSC EURIBIA, as well as a Letter of Intent with the goal of cooperating on the supply of synthetic e-LNG made with renewable energy. All this as part of MSC Cruise Division’s strategy to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions from its marine operations by 2050.

AIDA Cruises: Opening of Denmark's first shore power facility with AIDAMAR in Aarhus

After Germany, Norway and the UK, Denmark is now the fourth European country where shore power-capable cruise ships can now reduce their emissions to almost zero while at berth.

Premiere in Denmark: Together with the Port of Aarhus, AIDA Cruises celebrated the opening of the first shore power facility for cruise ships on 20 June 2023. AIDAMAR was successfully supplied with energy from shore in regular operation. Prior to this, AIDA Cruises already supported its Danish partner in the preparations for the commissioning of the newly built plant. In April this year, AIDASOL was the first cruise ship to successfully complete shore-side and shipboard integration tests.

Viking Line Abp: Revised earnings forecast for financial year 2023

The Board of Directors has decided to revise the company’s earnings forecast for 2023. Under the condition that energy prices are maintained at the current level, Viking Line's board of directors assesses that the profit before tax will be better than the previous year.
The previously published earnings forecast was "Under the condition that energy prices are maintained at the current level and taking into account that the realized profits are expected to be lower than in 2022, Viking Line estimates that the result before tax will be slightly lower than the previous year".
The Half-year Financial Report for January – June 2023 will be published 25 August 2023.

A second ship ordered for Four Seasons Yachts at Fincantieri

Fincantieri has signed a contract with Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings LTD, Joint Owner/Operator of Four Seasons Yachts, for the construction of the second ultra-luxury Four Seasons vessel. This second vessel’s order is worth more than EUR 400 m, and the ship will be delivered in 2026.

The Four Seasons Yachts newbuildings will measure 207m x 27m and feature 14 decks. Passenger accommodation comprises 95 suites, capable of accommodating a maximum of 185 passengers.

On 19 June, P&O Ferries’ new hybrid ship, P&O PIONEER, made its maiden voyages, sailing tourist passengers and vital trade business across the channel between Dover and Calais, a route which carries over GBP 144bn of goods by ferry alone each year.

The ship is propelled by a combination of traditional fuel and battery power and has been designed with the capacity to become carbon neutral in future. The major investment in these two 230m long hybrid ships allows P&O Ferries to cut fuel use while maintaining capacity.

North Sea Handling AS is through its subsidiary NSH Ships Equipment AS were awarded the contract to equip Stena RoRo’s two new NewMax vessels being built for Stena Line by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) co., ltd. with cargo access equipment tailor made for RoRo operations.

The NSH scope of supply will include a wide range of equipment serving the handling of ro-ro, bunkering and crew.

D4R2 Shipping set to order four unique con-ro’s to decarbonise the Ecuador-Europe banana trade

Newly established reefer ro-ro shipping company D4R2 Shipping is set to revolutionise the banana and pineapple export market from Central America to Europe by ordering four con-ro vessels of a new patented design.

D4R2 Shipping has been established by Danish maritime equity fund Dee4 Capital, with the Copenhagen-based fund working in partnership with Swiss-based Reefer RoRo AG on the project.

Brittany Ferries announces the inauguration of the LNG bunker terminal in Santander

Repsol inaugurated its LNG bunker terminal in Santander, Spain. The inauguration came one year after the commissioning of the Bilbao terminal. The two facilities, both equipped with a 1,000 m3 storage tank, were built following an agreement between Brittany Ferries and Repsol in 2019 for the supply of LNG to ships serving Spain.

Stena Line and Port of Gothenburg take next step towards Arendal

Stena Line and Port of Gothenburg signed an agreement on 9 June for the relocation of Stena Line’s Denmark- and Germany ferry operations to an all-new terminal in Arendal, Gothenburg. The new location will meet the needs of sustainable transport solutions for both Stena Line and Port of Gothenburg.

The agreement between Stena Line and Port of Gothenburg includes the construction of the new terminal as well as rent and leasing of the terminal area and a new terminal building. The contract stretches over 25 years.
