CLdN to further increase capacity on North Sea routes to and from eastern England

CLdN has announced a further increase of capacity for customers on its North Sea routes to and from eastern England by chartering the TUNDRALAND.

TUNDRALAND will be introduced into the CLdN network on 13 February 2023, allowing increased tonnage to be redeployed onto the Zeebrugge & Rotterdam / UK routes.

DFDS full year 2022 report released

DFDS reported full year 2022 financials that showed revenue was up 47% to DKK 26.9 billion and EBITDA increased 45% to DKK 5.0 billion.

The company announced a proposed dividend of DKK 286 million plus DKK 300 million share buyback.

Passenger numbers more than tripled compared to the same period in 2022, freight down 6%.

Strong 2022 for Port of Ystad

Port of Ystad was able to set new record numbers in 2022 where both calls (+1.9%), passenger cars (+6.3%) and passengers (+8.6%) were noted.

Port of Ystad looks forward with confidence to 2023, among other things, with the arrival of the new large passenger catamaran, Bornholmslinjen’s EXPRESS 5, for traffic between Ystad and Bornholm.

Royal Caribbean Group reports 2022 results and names new executive vice president

Full year 2022 total revenues were USD 8.8 billion (USD 1.5 billion) for the Royal Caribbean Group and adjusted EBITDA was USD 711.6 million (USD -2.6 billion).

The Group carried 5.54 million passengers during the year, up from 1.03 million in 2021.

Palle Laursen named executive vice president, head of marine

Royal Caribbean Group also named Palle Laursen as executive vice president, head of marine, effective 1 May 2023. Laursen will report to Royal Caribbean Group's President and CEO Jason Liberty and will join the company's Executive Committee.

PowerCell has signed a letter of intent to negotiate the final terms concerning one of the world’s largest hydrogen fuel cell project in the marine industry. The project in northern Norway for Torghatten Nord comprises two ferries which will be powered by hydrogen used in fuel cells.

Carl-Johan Hagman to become president and CEO at NYK Group Europe Ltd.

Svein Steimler, president and CEO of NYK Group Europe Ltd., will retire on 31 March 2023, and will subsequently become a special advisor of the company. Successor will become Carl-Johan Hagman, who spent the last 12 years within Stena.

Preliminary figures show that Color Line achieved record revenue in 2022. Revenue was NOK 5.8 billion (NOK 2.6 billion) and EBITDA reached NOK 1.2 billion (NOK 211 million), while EBIT was NOK 598 million (NOK -386 million).

Close to 3.6 million passengers and 190,000 freight units (12-m equivalents) were transportered during the year.

Elvir Dzanic, current CEO of Göteborgs Hamn AB, will be taking over the role as CEO of WALLENIUS SOL from Ragnar Johansson.

Ragnar Johansson will step down from his post as CEO of Swedish shipping company WALLENIUS SOL to focus instead on developing the company’s business. Elvir Dzanic has been appointed as new CEO and comes from a position as CEO at Göteborgs Hamn AB.

TT-Line expands by adding Karlshamn to its route network

TT-Line announced that they will incorporate the Swedish Port of Karlshamn into their route network this spring.

Besides offering the route from Trelleborg in South Sweden to and from Klaipeda as well as the connections to and from the German ports Travemünde and Rostock, they will offer a direct route from Karlshamn to and from Klaipeda up to six times a week with a crossing time of around 13 hours.

Fjord Line introduces a permanent route change from Langesund to Kristiansand

When traffic with STAVANGERFJORD and BERGENSFJORD resumes in May and June 2023 after their dual-fuel engine conversions, the ships will permanently sail between Bergen – Stavanger – Hirtshals – Kristiansand. There will no longer be any calls at Langesund Port.

Fjord Line has had traffic to and from Langesund since 2014.

UK’s race to net zero maritime receives GBP 77 million boost

Zero-emission ferries, cruises and cargo ships will set sail in UK waters within 2 years, creating thousands of new jobs, thanks to a GBP 77 million government investment in clean maritime technology. The funding will take the tech from the factory to the sea, identifying which projects will have a long-term impact in reducing emissions.

Wärtsilä will supply dual-fuel engines and high-performance axial flow waterjets for the new High-Speed ro-pax ferry MARGARITA SALAS which is currently being built at the Astilleros Armon Gijon yard for Baleària. The order was included in Wärtsilä’s order book in April 2022.

MARGARITA SALAS will become 123 metres long and have the same dimensions as its sister vessel, the ELEANOR ROOSEVELT.

Contract finalised for two new CalMac ferries for the Little Minch

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has confirmed the signing of the Bank Refund Guarantee (BRG) for two new vessels for the Little Minch routes between Uig, Lochmaddy and Tarbert (Harris).
Work to build the ferries will now begin at Cemre Marin Endustri A.S shipyard in Turkey, with an expected delivery date for both in June and October 2025 respectively.

They will be built to the same specification as the vessels for Islay, which are already under construction at Cemre. Both are currently ahead of schedule.

AS Tallink Grupp Statistics for January 2023

In January 2023 AS Tallink Grupp transported 338,194 passengers, which is a 86.1% increase compared to January 2022. The number of cargo units decreased by 12.3% to 27,382 units and the number of passenger vehicles increased by 26.8% to 51,764 units in the same comparison.
