Stena RoRo takes delivery of SANTOÑA in China and hands over vessel to long-term charterer Brittany Ferries
Stena RoRo took delivery of its ninth E-Flexer ro-pax on 22 December from China’s AVIC CMI Jinling Shipyard and immediately handed over the LNG-powered vessel to Brittany Ferries, which has chartered the ferry for 10 years, with an option to buy at the end of the long-term charter.
Hurtigruten and Brunvoll receive funding from The Green Platform Initiative to develop zero emission vessel
Norwegian Research Council has awarded the Sea Zero project 67 MNOK in funding to develop zero emission costal express vessels. Hurtigruten's ambition is to develop a zero-emission ship for the costal route from Bergen to Kirkenes. The project is close to 123MNOK and in close cooperation with several leading Norwegian maritime suppliers.
MacGregor has received one major and two significant orders for RoRo equipment for Pure Car and Truck Carriers
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has received two significant orders and one major order for comprehensive packages of ro-ro equipment for a total of 15 PCTC vessels to be built at three shipyards in China and South Korea for three different ship owners.
Corsica awards a seven-year Public Ferry Contract (PFC) to Corsica Linea and La Méridionale

Corsican parliament approved on Tuesday 20 December the next Public Ferry Contract (PFC) to connect the islands main ports with Marseille from 1 January 2023 until 31 December 2029.
The EUR 106.7 million a year contract includes the Marseille – Ajaccio, Marseille – Bastia, Marseille – île Rousse, Marseille – Porto Vecchio and Marseille – Propriano routes.
Carnival Corporation fourth quarter 2022 update
Revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 was USD 3.8 billion, which was 80% of 2019 levels and adjusted EBITDA for the fourth quarter of 2022 was USD (96) million (USD (1,060)).
Brittany Ferries announces the reopening to passengers on the Le Havre-Portsmouth route

Brittany Ferries announces the return of passenger activity from Le Havre. Travelers can now book for departures from 1 March 2023. As a result of the covid crisis, the route had, for the past few years, only been used for freight transport.
Passengers will travel aboard the COTENTIN which can accommodate up to 114 people in cabins.
European Commission approves EUR 80 million Finnish recapitalisation measure to support Meyer Turku
The European Commission has approved a EUR 80 million Finnish recapitalisation measure to support Meyer Turku Oy Shipyard in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine pursuant to Article 107(3)(b) TFEU and in line with the principles set out in the Temporary Crisis Framework adopted by the Commission on 23 March 2022 and amended on 20 July 2022 and on 28 October 2022.
EQT Infrastructure combines ferry companies Molslinjen and Torghatten to form pan-Nordic operator of “floating bridges”

EQT Infrastructure to launch Nordic Ferry Infrastructure (“NFI”) through the combination of Molslinjen and Torghatten, creating a pan-Nordic operator of "floating bridges” with a well-diversified portfolio of over 65 routes and 16 million passengers annually. Molslinjen and Torghatten will continue to operate independently under their existing brands, and Carsten Jensen, currently serving as CEO Molslinjen, is appointed CEO of NFI.

The latest ro-pax ferry to join the fleet of Strait NZ’s subsidiary Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries CONNEMARA has completed her refit and re-branding in her new operator’s colours and sailed from Damen Shiprepair’s Dunkirk yard at the start of her long delivery voyage to New Zealand.
The first VinFast electric vehicles arrived in the US
On 20 December the first 999 electric vehicles from the Vietnamese car manufacturer VinFast arrived in the US as the SILVER QUEEN docked at the Port of Benicia in California. SILVER QUEEN has been long-term chartered from Sallaum Lines.
Holland Norway Lines on track to 190,000 passengers in its debut year

Holland Norway Lines started its Eemshaven to Kristiansand operation in April of this year. The company announced that they are on track for close to 190,000 passengers in its debut year. The organisation aspires to be the preferred service between Norway and Europe, for both leisure travel and cargo. To achieve this, Holland Norway Lines has introduced several changes in its management team.
ZINUS solution selected to Portugal’s first electric car ferry
The Portuguese shipyard Navaltagus, a part of the industrial ETE group, is building the very first electrical car and passenger ferry in Portugal. Recently, the yard awarded Zinus the contract to supply the fully autonomous connection enabling the ferry to charge its batteries while berthed.
Changes in AS Tallink Grupp’s loan obligations
AS Tallink Grupp has amended and restated the EUR 280 million loan agreement from December 2016. The final maturity of the Euribor based floating interest rate loan was extended by 3 years with two further extension possibilities, each by one year. Sustainability-linked clauses were added to the amended and restated loan agreement. Current outstanding balance of the loan is EUR 135,5 million.

Tallink Grupp’s new flagship, fast ferry MYSTAR, which started operating on the company’s Tallinn-Helsinki shuttle service route last Wednesday, 13 December 2022, has made a total of 40 departures during the first seven days on the route and carried altogether approximately 32,000 passengers from 106 countries across the world.
The Scottish government injects a further GBP 72 million to complete CalMac’s two much delayed ro-paxes at Ferguson Marine

Port Glasgow-based Ferguson Marine will receive another GBP 72 million cash injection to complete the much-delayed GLEN SANNOX and the still unmanned Hull 802 for Caledonian MacBrayne’s (CalMac) lifeline Western Isles services.
GLEN SANNOX and its sister were initially contracted for a combined GBP 97 million and are now five to six years delayed. Together with earlier additonal cash injections, the vessels are now projected to cost GBP 340 million.
Rauma shipyard begins construction of the second LNG-powered car and passenger ferry for TT-Line Spirit of Tasmania

Rauma Marine Constructions started the production of the second of two Tasmanian vessels with a traditional steel cutting ceremony. The design and construction of the two identical sister ships at the shipyard have proceeded according to the agreed schedule. The ferries, expected to be completed at the beginning, and the end of 2024, are set to operate on a challenging open sea route between mainland Australia and Tasmania for TT-Line Spirit of Tasmania.
Car carrier newbuilding spree continues with COSCO Shipping JV ordering six further PCTC’s at Chinese yards
The car carrier newbuilding spree experienced during 2022 has continued towards the end of December with Guangzhou Yuanhai Car Carrier Transportation, a joint venture recently set up by COSCO Shipping specialised Carriers, SIPG Logistics and Anji Logistics, has ordered six further dual fuel LNG-powered 7,500 CEU capacity vessels from two Chinese yards.
The six 199.9m x 38m vessels will be built by Fujian Shipbuilding at its Xiamen Shipbuilding and Mawei Shipyard at a price of USD 85 million each, with delivery set for 2025 and 2026.
Godby’s MIDAS chartered to TransProCon

MIDAS was redelivered from her short-term charter to Stena Line on 17 December and has thereafter been chartered to Gothenburg-based TransProCon until December 2023.
MIDAS will be used in TransProCon’s service to transport a combination of liner, project and military cargoes on the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
Before the charter to Stena Line, MIDAS had a one-month charter to Condor Ferries.
Shikoku Ferry has ordered a new ro-pax

Japan’s Shikoku Ferry has ordered a new 1,360gt ro-pax from Shikoku Dockyard, which will be the first car ferry built by the yard in 43 years.
The unnamed ferry is set to enter service on the Takamatsu-Shodoshima (Tonosho) route in the autumn of 2024 and will likely replace SHODOSHIMA MARU NO.7.

Green Fuels for Denmark receives Danish IPCEI funding
The Danish Business Authority has awarded the Danish Power-to-X flagship project ‘Green Fuels for Denmark’ DKK 600 million as part of Denmark’s participation in the European IPCEI programme. The funding will go towards realising Green Fuels for Denmark’s first phases of 10 MW, 100 MW and 300 MW, respectively.
SeaLink announce naming competition for the new Kangaroo Island ferries

After winning the South Australian Government’s tender in late 2021 to provide the Kangaroo Island Ferry Service, SeaLink is investing AUD 57 million to build two new larger vehicle ferries expected to come into service by July 2024.
