apan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines announced that its board of directors decided on a plan to build two new ocean-going cruise ships.

According to a statement from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, it will build two 35,000 gt class Japanese flag-flying cruise ships, and the first ship is expected to be delivered around 2027.

German cruise ship specialist Meyer Werft has started the construction of the second Nova-class vessel for Silversea Cruises – SILVER RAY – with first steel cut on 23 November.

The 54,700 gt, 728 passenger capacity SILVER RAY will feature an innovative propulsion system, comprising dual fuel engines (LNG and ultra-low-sulphur diesel) complemented with a fuel cell system with an output of 4MW.

Oslo-based car carrier giant Höegh Autoliners has exercised its option to buy the 8,500 CEU capacity, 2016-built PCTC HÖEGH TRAPPER from Lysaker-based Ocean Yield for USD 53 million, 55 per cent of the vessel’s estimated current market value.

Things at North African ferry operator Algérie Ferries (Enterprise Nationale de Transport Maritime de Voyageurs – ENTMV) have turned problematic, with senior management sacked and now arrested by the Government of a number of illegal activities and now one of their ro-pax ferries, TARIQ IBN ZIYAD, has been detained in the Spanish port of Alicante under Port State Control measures, believed to revolve around hygiene issues on the 1995-built vessel.

Color Group AS, through its subsidiary Color Line Transport AS, have entered into a MOU (memorandum of agreement) for the sale its freight ro-ro vessel COLOR CARRIER. Delivery to the not-yet-known buyer will be in December 2022-January 2023.


Deltamarin receives 3D model-based DNV approval

Deltamarin, DNV and AVEVA announced a strengthened collaboration following an approval from DNV for a 3D model used as part of the classification material prepared for Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora Class PCTCs.
The three companies have been cooperating on streamlining the approval processes of classification materials from drawings to 3D models using the new Open Class 3D Exchange (OCX) standard. Deltamarin, DNV and AVEVA continue to combine their expertise to take the next big step towards the future of design processes.

Baleària and Telefónica have developed a 5G connectivity project on maritime routes with the application of these communications to the fast ferry ELEANOR ROOSEVELT on the route from Dénia to Ibiza.

This initiative, one of the first in the world, uses the 5G Ship to Shore solution, which consists of providing 5G communications with antennas both on the coast and on ships sailing at a distance of up to 100 km. From the shore.
