Keel laid for fifth Oasis Class vessel – to be named WONDER OF THE SEAS

The keel of Royal Caribbean International’s (RCI) fifth Oasis Class vessel, to be named WONDER OF THE SEAS, was laid on 9 October at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. When delivered in the first half of 2021, the 227,000gt vessel will sail to Shanghai to homeport for a season of cruises from China.
CLdN’s newbuilds from HMD to be LNG-powered

With the recent introduction of the 5,400-lanemetre HERMINE, CLdN has announced that the fifth and sixth ship in the LAURELINE Class ordered on 10 July will be LNG-powered.
HOLLANDIA SEAWAYS delivered

Chinese shipbuilder Jinling has handed over HOLLANDIA SEAWAYS to DFDS. HOLLANDIA SEAWAYS is the third in a series of six 6,695-lanemetre ro-ro super freighters building for DFDS.

Pentland Ferries’ new ALFRED arrived in St Margaret’s Hope, Orkney early morning 9 October after completing her 5,481-nautical-mile voyage from Strategic Marine’s newbuilding facility at Vung Tau, Vietnam.

The future of the last remaining commercial shipyard on the Lower Clyde in Scotland was decided on 2 October when it was announced by the administrators of Ferguson Marine Engineering Ltd (FMEL) that the yard would be nationalised by the Scottish Government, despite three firm commercial bids for the shipyard for outside interests.

On the sidelines of Grimaldi Group’s 23rd Euro-Med Convention held in Giardini Naxos, Sicily on 4 October, Emanuele Grimaldi, has confirmed that an order for two Superstar Class ro-pax ferries is expected to be signed before the end of this year with three yards having been shortlisted.

Shore power in Copenhagen for DFDS
DFDS and Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) have signed a so-called Letter of Intent about shore power in Copenhagen. According to the agreement, CMP will invest in a shore based power connection that will enable the Copenhagen-Oslo ferries, CROWN SEAWAYS and PEARL SEAWAYS, to receive power from shore based plants.

FREJA has partnered with Color Line Cargo on regular weekly departures with Color Line's newest Ship, COLOR CARRIER, and trains between Kiel in Germany and Verona in Italy. This in addition to already existing solutions with the ships COLOR MAGIC and COLOR FANTASY.
FREJA has secured a large proportion of the 30 carriages that are currently the capacity of the train, already at the first departure from Kiel, Sunday, October 6. ECSA's General Assembly: Claes Berglund and Philippos Philis as next President and Vice-President
The President for the next 2 years is Claes Berglund. Mr Berglund is Director Public Affairs & Sustainability of Stena AB. He has been a senior executive in the shipping industry for 15 years, before which he worked for 12 years in road-based transport and third-party logistics services. Mr Berglund is also a reserve officer in the Royal Swedish Navy.

BC Ferries issues $250 million in bonds
BC Ferries announced that it has entered into an agency agreement with a syndicate of investment banks to issue $250 million of its senior secured bonds. The bonds will bear interest at 2.794 per cent per annum and will mature in 30 years. The issue is expected to close on October 15, 2019.
The net proceeds from the sale of this series of bonds will be used, together with additional cash on hand, to provide for capital expenditures and general corporate purposes and to fund the series reserve account.
Order for Wärtsilä LNG Bunkering Vessel Simulator enables first-of-its-kind hands-on training
The technology group Wärtsilä will supply an LNG bunkering vessel simulator to Kasi Group (Malaysia), a leading provider of integrated marine solutions. The simulator will be used to provide hands-on training to those who will be operating LNG bunkering services. Wärtsilä is the first company capable of offering such a simulator. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in July.

ClassNK releases “Guidelines for Remote Surveys” - ICT utilization in remote surveys
Classification Society ClassNK has released “Guidelines for Remote Surveys” in preparation for carrying out remote surveys (*1) using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) (*2). The guidelines outline requirements to apply to remote surveys for some types of occasional surveys, and from now on ClassNK will implement remote surveys that satisfy the requirements.
