Smyril Line’s ro-pax NORRÖNA is to enter Danish shiprepairer Fayard’s facility in Munkebo on 19 December to undergo a near-three-month upgrade of passenger facilities. The project is scheduled to be completed on 4 March 2021, with NORRÖNA returning to service on its regular Hirtshals-Tórshavn-Seydisfjordur service on 6 March 2021.

Port of Trelleborg offers their shipping customers reliable and fast internet with Nowhere Networks

Port of Trelleborg, the largest RoRo port in Scandinavia, has chosen Nowhere Networks as its strategic supplier for radio based fast internet to their shipping customers. Implementation will start shortly and before the end of this year all ferries of the Port of Trelleborg will have the opportunity to connect via radio link and receive up to 300 Mbit/s internet. Starting at the beginning of 2021, TT-Line will be the first shipping company to use high-speed internet via the joint collaboration between Nowhere Networks and the Port of Trelleborg.

ASSONAVE - “Now or Never”

The General Meeting of the associated and affiliated members of ASSONAVE, the Italian shipbuilding industry association, was held in Rome, chaired by Ambassador Vincenzo Petrone, to adopt the financial statements of 2019 and the budget for 2020. In the overview of the global shipbuilding industry - already disappointing in 2019 with a 20% drop in orders in terms of volume over the previous year - orders in the first semester 2020 plunged by 40% and deliveries decreased by 17% as a result of the global Covid-19 crisis.

As part of their ongoing commitment to support greener shipping, Yara Marine has jointly commissioned a report to quantify the climate impact of scrubbers compared to low sulphur fuel oil.

The technology group Wärtsilä, a leading provider of Exhaust Gas Cleaning (EGC) systems for the marine industry, refers its customers to a recent report from CE Delft, an independent research and consultancy organisation, regarding the climate impact of EGCs. The study compares the results to the use of low-sulphur marine fuels and is made from a well-to-wake perspective in order to achieve an accurate comparison.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NCLH) solemnly marks the passing on Sept. 20, 2020 of one of its founders, Knut Kloster, at the age of 91. Six months with Covid-19-how has the Port of Trelleborg been affected?

The Corona virus Covid-19 broke out in mid-March 2020 and the world was turned upside down. When a large part of Europe closed down border crossings on land, it was of great importance that our imports as exports of goods that go by sea to and from Swedish ports could continue to function. The Port of Trelleborg has remained stable during the ongoing pandemic and the trend for Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port is increased freight volumes. The port continues with its investments and port expansion according to plan, all in order to meet increased capacity, improved intermodality and the opportunity for the next generation of RoRo vessels to be able to call at the port.

DFDS increase frequency and service on Karlshamn-Klaipeda

The ferry operator DFDS A/S now increase the number of sailings on their Karlshamn-Klaipeda service. Since September 19th, there are two departures from Karlshamn on Saturdays instead of one. At the same time the service is further increased by adjusting the sailing schedule with earlier arrivals and later departures. By doing this the customers will increase the geographical catchment area.
