Stena Line offers City of Sassnitz to take over defunct Trelleborg route

Stena Line has offered the City of Sassnitz to take over the ferry route to Trelleborg, until the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis operated by the 1989-built rail-enabled ro-pax SASSNITZ. © Marko Stampehl

According to an article by Swedish daily Trelleborgs Allehanda, Stena Line has offered the City of Sassnitz to take over the entire activity of the Sassnitz-Trelleborg route, also known as ‘Königslinie’ or ‘Kungslinjen’. The takeover would include personnel and the route’s single ferry, SASSNITZ, which was laid up in Uddevalla following Stena Line’s decision to permanently cease the service.

Italian government to save CIN by decree

The Italian government has just issued a recovery decree-law, ensuring general measures for the recovery of the economy in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. This includes a specific measure suggested by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), calling for the extension of the agreement between the MIT and Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione (CIN), albeit not exceeding 12 months after the end of the COVID-19 emergency situation, expected to be 31 July 2020.

P&O Ferries to make a further 1,100 workers redundant – the vast majority seafarers

The crisis at P&O Ferries due to the continued lockdown in the UK and loss of business due to COVID-19 continues, with the Dover-headquartered operator announcing that it is to make 1,100 people redundant – the vast majority of them seafarers. It is understood that this is roughly a quarter of the ferry operator’s workforce.

Fjord1 reports strong Q1 result

Fjord1 has remained fully operational during the full Q1 period in compliance with the regulations and recommendations to limit the COVID-19 spread. Reduced frequency on routes had only limited effect, but revenues from catering and tourism dwindled. Overall revenue increased to NOK 752 million (+17%), while EBITDA increased to NOK 194 million (+23%).

Approval of loan terms by the Government of the Republic of Estonia

The Government of the Republic of Estonia today approved the terms of a working capital loan to AS Tallink Grupp (the Company). The total amount of the loan limit is EUR 100 million and the loan can be issued in EUR 10-40 million tranches. The interest rate of the three-year maturity loan is 12-month Euribor +2%.
