DISCOVERY PRINCESS, the sixth and last in a line of six Royal Class ships built for Princess Cruises, was floated out at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone on 18 March.
Trasmapi buys AMHS’s FAIRWEATHER and CHENEGA

After failing to secure the purchase of Alaska Marine Highway Systems (AMHS) two laid up fast ferries FAIRWEATHER and CHENEGA at auction in January, Spanish fast ferry operator Trasmapi upped its bid and its has been accepted by Alaska’s Department of Transportation (DOT).

Baleària is boosting its service between Barcelona and Menorca for the summer by introducing a fast ferry to run alongside its conventional ro-pax from 1 June.

CTMA’s latest fleet addition, MADELEINE II, sailed on 13 March from the ASTICAN shiprepair yard in Las Palmas wearing the colours of her new owners, bound for the Madeleine Islands, via a stop in Freeport, Bahamas.
Brodosplit launched expedition vessel JANSSONIUS

The second of two expedition cruise vessels ordered by Dutch operator Oceanwide Expeditions from Croatia’s Brodosplit shipyard – JANSSONIUS – was launched on 11 March.

New Spirits for RMC after all?

Eight months after setting up a multi-party taskforce to consider home-grown replacements for TT-Line’s SPIRIT OF TASMANIA ferries, the state government has told the company to resume negotiations with Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC).
Fourth GG5G delivered to Grimaldi

China Merchants’ Jinling Shipyard has handed over the fourth vessel in the successful GG5G series built for Grimaldi Group. Named ECO SAVONA, the 7,800-lanemetre hybrid ro-ro will join sister ships ECO VALENCIA, BARCELONA and LIVORNO on the Western Mediterranean MoS that connects Livorno and Savona in Italy with Barcelona and Valencia in Spain.

DFDS to replace DROTTEN by PELAGOS

Having become surplus to requirements, La Méridionale will charter out PELAGOS to DFDS which will introduce the 1997-built Visentini Class ro-pax between Dunkerque and Rosslare, replacing Rederi AB Gotland’s DROTTEN.

Oceania Cruises Welcomes VISTA To Its Acclaimed Fleet

Oceania Cruises introduced VISTA to the world, naming the first of two new 1,200-guest Allura Class ships that are being constructed by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri S.p.A. The luxury vessel, the seventh for the line, will set sail in 2023, followed by a sister ship in 2025.
Albatros Expeditions reveals new ship achieves lowest Greenhouse Gases emissions per passenger

The Danish boutique expedition cruise operator Albatros Expeditions, part of Albatros Travel Group, has announced that following the successful sea trials for the brand-new expedition cruise vessel, OCEAN VICTORY, they are convinced the ship will deliver the lowest Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions per passenger in the industry.
As part of the UK Chamber of Shipping’s ongoing work with the UK government, the Department for Transport on 15 March announced that all seafarers, irrespective of nationality, will be exempted from Red List (Acute List in Scotland) country restrictions, most notably mandatory hotel quarantine, with effect from 0400 on Friday 19 March 2021.
Wärtsilä Exhaust Treatment highlights the potential for exhaust gas abatement systems to directly tackle maritime carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the near future, as technology advances and enables manufacturers to design and upgrade scrubbers to capture carbon at the point of exhaust.
Wärtsilä has conducted extensive research and development to explore how Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) can be developed and scaled in maritime.

From Tuesday, 16 March 2021, Confido will open a new coronavirus testing location at Terminal D, Port of Tallinn and will thus make it easier for passengers to obtain the necessary negative COVID test certificates, required for travelling to Finland since the end of February.
Passengers will be able to take the coronavirus antigen test at the new testing location and should allow at least half an hour before boarding to get the result and necessary certificate. Passengers wanting to use this service must book a testing slot in advance.
Höegh Autoliners returns to Gothenburg
Höegh Autoliners is pleased to announce its return to Gothenburg with a regular direct service to South Africa and Oceania. The service started this March and is offered every other week.
