Tasmania’s TT-Line drops FSG, signs MOU with RMC

The new Spirit of Tasmania ro-paxes will be built by Finland’s Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) after TT-Line Tasmania and Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) mutually agreed to cancel existing contracts.

Financials

Tallink Grupp reports a profit jump for 2019

Tallink Grupp has released its 2019 unaudited financial results, revealing that revenues went slightly down from EUR 949.7 million in 2018 to EUR 949.1 million due to dockings and maintenance together with a reduction in the number of hotels operated by the group which was reduced from five to four. Profit went up significantly though with EBITDA reaching EUR 171.1 million (EUR 142.8 million in 2018).

Finnlines released its 2019 full-year financial results

Blaming lower volumes in the Finland trade, Finnlines Group’s revenues shrunk from EUR 589.4 million in 2018 to EUR 574.8 million in 2019. EBITDA increased to EUR 169.8 million, compared to 166.4 million in 2018.

Weaker financial results for Fjord1

Fjord1 has published its 2019 full-year results showing a 12% drop in revenues to NOK 2,724 million. EBITDA ended at NOK 819 million, which was NOK 232 million lower than in 2018.

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings’ 2019 full-year results

Tour revenues increased with 11% to USD 343.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA increased with 21% to USD 66.6 million.



Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings full-year results

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings reported its 2019 full-year financial results showing a 6.7% increase in revenue to USD 6.5 billion. GAAP net income fell to USD 930.2 million from USD 954.8 million.

DFDS grew its business in 2019

DFDS has published its annual report which shows a 6% revenue growth to DKK 16.6 billion and EBITDA growth of 1% to DKK 3.6 billion.

BC Ferries released its third quarter results

The third quarter results for BC Ferries, ending 31 December 2019, showed that the company increased its revenue with CAD 3.2 million to CAD 210.9 million, while the reported net loss also increased from CAD 3.7 million to CAD 8.3 million due to increased operating expenses.

Wasaline’s financials unchanged for 2019

Wasaline’s financials for 2019 remained at the same record level as those in 2018 despite the Finnish Seafarer's Union's support strike in November and WASA EXPRESS being at the shipyard for three weeks in January.

The City of Tallinn has today signed an MOU with the Baltic Sea shipping giant Tallink Grupp AS and one of Estonia’s largest investment groups and Tallink Grupp’s largest shareholder AS Infortar for the development of the Tallinn City Hall property into an international conference and concert centre together with an accompanying passenger port, hotel, business centre, restaurants, cafes and other leisure facilities.

This is the first newbuild in Norway with STI Marine cable transits

The Ulstein Verft Shipyard is now preparing to deliver the expedition cruise ship NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE to the American cruise line Lindblad Expeditions. This ship will be the first newbuild in Norway to be equipped with STI Marine cable transits, EZ-Path® – supplied by Elpro.

Hydro wins key project for next generation coastal cruise ships

Hydro has been awarded contracts from Tersan Shipyard to deliver aluminium solutions for the upper sections of ships under construction for Norwegian shipowner Havila Kystruten AS.

As part of an ongoing cooperation for sustainable cruising, the Costa Group, leader of the cruise market in Europe and the Port of Marseille Fos have signed a new partnership agreement to entrust an experimental study to the Pôle Mer Mediterranée (PMM) and its
partners, with the support of the Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Énergie (ADEME). The objective is to fund and conduct research on improved technological solutions for the efficiency of energy systems - whether on land or on board ships – to further enhance sustainable operations in port.

HVCC, Wärtsilä and Carnival achieve real-time data exchange between ship and port

Reliable ship arrivals, more efficient ship handling and port logistics, as well as reduced fuel consumption and emissions – these are the aims of a joint digitalisation project between HVCC Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center, the maritime technology company Wärtsilä and the cruise group Carnival.

Ingeteam signs the contract with Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore for hybrid electric propulsion system delivery of two Ro-Ro vessels

Ingeteam has signed the contract with Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore (CHINA) comprising the delivery of the engineering, production, commissioning and sea trials of the Hybrid Electric Propulsion System for two icebreaking Ro-Ro Ships, owned by the Swedish Wallenius SOL.

Kongsberg Maritime wins 300 MNOK contract to equip four new cruise vessels

Kongsberg Maritime has won contracts worth approximately 300 MNOK to equip three adventure cruise ships, with a fourth to follow. Built by WestSea Viana Shipyard in Portugal and destined for delivery to Portuguese cruise company Mystic Cruises, the vessels are to be used for expeditions in the polar regions.



Kongsberg enters into collaboration with the enironmental foundation ZERO

In February KONGSBERG and Zero signed a three-year collaboration agreement. The main intentions of the collaboration are to create increased momentum in the shift to renewable and emission-free solutions.

Nippon Paint Marine has signed a long-term supply contract with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (Norwegian) to provide antifouling systems to 13 cruise ships operating under the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands.

Foreship scrubber enquiries surge as owners clear the air

Independent naval architect and marine engineering specialist Foreship reports a growing number of owners are reviewing their decisions on the best way to meet IMO 2020 emissions restrictions. The consultancy says it has seen an unprecedented surge of enquiries on how exhaust gas cleaning systems can be fitted at short notice, following emerging market misgivings over the quality and availability of 0.5 per cent sulphur content fuel oils.

Marakeb Technologies, a leading autonomous technology provider, and Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in order to explore global collaboration opportunities in the field of autonomous technology. Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that the company has been selected by Damen Shipyards to supply the energy storage system (ESS) for four new battery-hybrid ferries for BC Ferries.

Collaboration about mobile networks on ships

DFDS works with Telenor and other partners to test the use of the powerful 5G mobile networks that allow for much faster data transmission. ARK DANIA is the testing ship. MAN, Alfa Laval, DFDS and Telenor discussed and explored the opportunities at a workshop at DFDS House.

Wasaline signed the SAILS Initiative

The new ferry currently under construction features several environmental-friendly attributes that exceed the regulatory obligations that Wasaline now can undertake and sign for.

Viking Line launches digital keys for cabin doors

Viking Line is the first shipping company operating in the Baltic Sea to introduce the use of digital keys for its cabin doors. Starting from 27 January 2020, the members of Viking Line Club have been able to use the Viking Line application as a key to their cabin aboard VIKING XPRS. The precondition for use is that all passengers included in the booking are Viking Line Club members. The aim is to make maritime travel easier. Customers check in via the Viking Line application and use the QR code they receive to board the ship and open the cabin door. A key operated by mobile application is an environmentally friendly solution, as it reduces the need for cardboard key cards.

The fourth-generation owner of the Wilhelmsen group, Wilhelm Wilhelmsen, has passed away

Wilhelm Wilhelmsen (born 8 June 1937) passed away 22 February. Through a long career, he was a very well-respected business leader and spokesperson for Norwegian shipping and the maritime industry at large.

BC Ferries appoints new Chief Financial Officer

BC Ferries is pleased to announce that Jill Sharland has been appointed to the position of Vice President & Chief Financial Officer effective March 2, 2020.

Changes at AS Tallink Grupp’s subsidiaries

The merger of AS Tallink Grupp’s (Group) wholly-owned subsidiary AS Hansatee Cargo with Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary AS Tallink was registered on 20.02.2020. During the course of the merger AS Hansatee Cargo merged with AS Tallink and was thereafter deleted from the Commercial Register. AS Hansatee Cargo was dormant and the merger was carried out in order to improve the Group’s structure.
