DFDS adapts supply to demand on Copenhagen-Frederikshavn-Oslo route

The second wave of COVID-19 in Europe and the further tightening of travel restrictions sees DFDS reducing its capacity on its daily Copenhagen-Frederikshavn-Oslo route with CROWN SEAWAYS to be laid up in Copenhagen as from 2 November.

Canary Bridge Seaways celebrates its second anniversary

Canary Bridge Seaways (CBS), the partnership between Baleària and Fred. Olsen Express formed to exploit a line between Huelva on the Spanish mainland, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, both in the Canary Islands, will celebrate its second anniversary in the next couple of days. The line to date offers a twice weekly ferry service, with connections offered by Fred. Olsen Express to the other Canary Islands.

P&O Ferries charters STENA FORECASTER for Irish Sea service

Yet another medium-sized ro-ro freighter has left layup as the 3,000-lanemetre STENA FORECASTER is currently in drydock at A&P Tyne to make the Stena Line-owned vessel ready for a charter to P&O Ferries.

Fosen Yard to complete HONFLEUR

One day after HONFLEUR left Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), Fosen Yard has confirmed that they will outfit and complete the dual fuel-powered ro-pax vessel that was supposed to be delivered to Brittany Ferries in June 2019.

Marios Iliopoulos has purchased a fifth and sixth cruise ship in four months but continues to keep a tight lid on future plans. The Piraeus-based owner is best known as the head of Greek ferry company Seajets.

Viking Line makes approximately 180 shore staff redundant

Following co-operation negotiations with its shore-based staff in Finland and Åland, Viking Line will make approximately 180 of them redundant, with 70 more employees being offered new functions and different working conditions.

Royal Caribbean Group provides business update and reports on third quarter 2020
Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) reported financial results for the third quarter of 2020 and commented on the business considering the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Company reported US GAAP Net Loss for the third quarter of 2020 of $(1.3) billion or $(6.29) per share compared to US GAAP Net Income of $883.2 million or $4.20 per share in the prior year. The Company also reported Adjusted Net Loss of $(1.2) billion or $(5.62) per share for the third quarter of 2020 compared to Adjusted Net Income of $896.8 million or $4.27 per share in the prior year. The Net Loss and Adjusted Net Loss for the quarter are the result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the business.
Color Group AS exercising option for general deferment of installments
With reference to Stock Exchange message in June with regards to an agreement with the company’s bankers and credit institutions. The company has today exercised an option for another 6 months of general deferment of installments, with liquidity effect of approx. NOK 200 mill.
Austal releases FY2021 earnings guidance
Austal has continued to perform well into FY2021, with an FY2021 EBIT of $125 million forecast. This is marginally lower than Austal’s record FY2020 EBIT of $130 million, with increased margin in the company’s USA operations and a significant improvement in margin in its Australasian operations offsetting a decline in revenue.

HIGHLIGHTS OF JANUARY–SEPTEMBER 2020
• Order intake decreased by 14% to EUR 3,240 million (3,772)
• Order book at the end of the period decreased by 12% to EUR 5,265 million (5,982)
• Net sales decreased by 3% to EUR 3,385 million (3,486)
• Book-to-bill amounted to 0.96 (1.08)
• Comparable operating result decreased by 32% to EUR 172 million (254), which represents 5.1% of net sales (7.3)
• Earnings per share decreased to 0.13 euro (0.20)
• Cash flow from operating activities increased to EUR 407 million (-63)

Interferry names new Chair and board member

Interferry, the trade association representing the worldwide ferry industry, has announced Brittany Ferries CEO Christophe Mathieu as the new Chair of its board of directors.
He was elected at the association’s annual general meeting on October 27 - held virtually due to COVID-19 travel restrictions - in succession to John Steen-Mikkelsen, former CEO of Denmark’s Danske Faerger. The meeting also confirmed the appointment of a new director extending Southeast Asia representation on the board.
HySHIP project clinches EUR 8M funding award

Ground-breaking maritime innovation project is granted EUR 8m in European funding as Norwegian government announces strengthened focus on development and commercialization of hydrogen as a carbon-neutral fuel. The revolutionary HySHIP project embraces 14 European partners collaborating on the design and construction of a new ro-ro demonstration vessel running on liquid green hydrogen (LH2), as well as the establishment of a viable LH2 supply chain and bunkering platform. The ship will be operated by Norwegian maritime industry group Wilhelmsen and will distribute LH2 to hydrogen hubs along the Norwegian coast. It is slated to be operational from 2024.
Wärtsilä to collaborate with Anemoi Marine Technologies in future sales of Rotor Sail solutions
The technology group Wärtsilä has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tied to a License and Cooperation agreement with UK-based Anemoi Marine Technologies for the future sales and servicing of Rotor Sail solutions to the shipping industry. The agreement was signed on 22 October 2020.
VIKING signs global firefighting foam agreement with Dr. Sthamer
VIKING acquired Drew Marine’s Fire Safety Rescue division in 2019 and absorbed the operation into its marine fire service (MFS) business, consolidated under a management and competency center based in Rotterdam. The new agreement covers distribution by VIKING of the marine-approved foam concentrates offered under the Dr. Sthamer brand.
ClassNK has granted its first “Digital Smart Ship(DSS)” notation for LNG-fueled PCTC “SAKURA LEADER”
Classification Society ClassNK has granted its “Digital Smart Ship(DSS)” notation for “SAKURA LEADER”, LNG-fueled PCTC which was ordered to Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd. by NYK Line. The vessel is marked with the first “DSS” on its notation in ClassNK’s registry.
In the 2021-22 season Costa Cruises will deploy COSTA FAVOLOSA and its new flagship Costa Toscana in South America. The COSTA FAVOLOSA season will be even longer, almost 5 months, starting from 20 November 2021 with embarkations in Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Itajaí.
Princess Cruises Announces Extension of Pause of Operations in Australia through End of May 2021
Due to the uncertainty about when international travel restrictions might be lifted, Princess Cruises is extending its pause in operations for cruises departing from Australia and New Zealand through May 31, 2021.

Costa Cruises completes first LNG bunkering operation in Italy
Costa Cruises announced another milestone for COSTA SMERALDA, the line’s first ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), with an LNG bunkering operation successfully performed on October 25 for the first time in Italy. Carried out in the port of La Spezia and completed at 6 pm, the operation was supported by the Italian Coast Guard, Port Authority of Eastern Ligurian Sea, local authorities and Shell, which is the LNG supplier partner for Costa Group and its parent company, Carnival Corporation.

Innovation Fund Denmark, the Danish investment entity, has announced the establishment of a consortium to develop a two-stroke, ammonia-fuelled engine for maritime shipping. It aims to specify and demonstrate an entire, marine-propulsion system that will pave the way for the first commercial order for an ammonia-fuelled vessel.
