More Fantasy Class Fun Ships to be recycled

Rather than putting the vessel in cold layup as first announced, Carnival Cruise Line has decided to send its 1995-built CARNIVAL IMAGINATION to the breaker’s yard in Aliaga, Turkey. The 1994-built CARNIVAL FASCINATION was also earmarked for cold layup and will likely follow next.

Color Line adapts Kiel-Oslo route to latest COVID-19 situation

As new entry restrictions will apply for German residents entering Norway as from 29 August, Color Line will no longer take German passengers on its daily Kiel-Oslo cruise ferry service, starting on 28 August. As it looks now, bookings from Germany will be possible again from 18 December onwards.

Condor Ferries makes nearly 200 workers redundant due to COVID-19

The latest ferry operator to make a sizeable portion of its workforce redundant due to the continuing COVID-19 crisis is Channel Islands ferry operator Condor Ferries, which has made nearly 200 of its 500 workforce redundant.

Norled Q2 results released

By virtue of being a domestic fjord ferry operator, Norled has so far been less impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Revenues dropped on the back of onboard kiosks that remained closed and the start-up of the typical tourist routes that was postponed. There was also a modified contract portfolio whereby five contracts ended at the end 2019 and only four new ones started on 1 January 2020. Total revenue for Q2 ended at NOK 478 million (NOK 605 million), while EBITDA ended at NOK 118 million (NOK 147 million).

Color line’s H1 2020 results heavily affected by COVID-19

Color Line has released its half-year report for the first six months of 2020. The group saw half of its revenue disappear in the wake of COVID-19 and ended at NOK 1.12 billion (NOK 2.28 billion), which, in turn, affected the results with an operating loss of NOK -489.6 million (NOK -7.5 million).

Carnival Cruise Line said that in light of continuing Australian travel restrictions, it is extending its pause in departures from Australia through 2 December 2020 for CARNIVAL SPIRIT and CARNIVAL SPLENDOR.

Gasum’s Coralius bunkered car carrier in Malmö, Sweden
Gasum bunkered United European Car Carriers’ vessel AUTO ENERGY with liquefied natural gas (LNG). The bunkering took place in Malmö at the Copenhagen Malmö Port via a ship-to-ship operation from Coralius to Auto Energy.
Damen Shiprepair Harlingen completes repair project on Rederij Doeksen VLIELAND ferry
Damen Shiprepair Harlingen (DSHl) has recently completed a repair project to Rederij Doeksen’s passenger/car ferry VLIELAND. The vessel operates a ferry service across the Wadden Sea between Harlingen in the north of the Netherlands and the island of Vlieland.
In an acknowledgement of the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) guidance and the complexity of operating world voyages, luxury cruise line Cunard will be extending its pause in operations from November 2020 until March 25, 2021 for its ship QUEEN ELIZABETH; until April 18, 2021 for QUEEN MARY 2 and until May 16, 2021 for QUEEN VICTORIA.
Costa Cruises continues to work for a responsible and safe start of its operations, scheduled for September, and becomes the first cruise company to earn the Biosafety Trust Certification from RINA, the over 150-year-old testing, inspection, certification and ship classification company that developed the innovative management system certification program.
Tallink Grupp has announced that it will suspend the Turku-Tallinn route, which was temporarily launched between the two countries in early July this year and which it originally planned to continue to operate throughout the coming autumn-winter season on weekends.
e5 Lab Launches ROBOSHIP Project to Promote Zero-Emission Electric Vessels
e5 Lab Inc. announced that the company—aiming to realize a sustainable society—has started developing the ROBOSHIP, the standard models of electrically powered vessels to realize zero emissions, as well as an integrated system called the “ROBOSHIP BOX,” which brings together telecommunications, the Internet of Things (IoT), and software.
Viking Line will begin cooperation negotiations with land-based staff in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Åland. On August 24, notification of cooperation negotiations was sent out to the Finnish organization. On the same day, the Swedish organization began negotiations in accordance with the Swedish Act on Co-Determination in the Workplace. The company plans to reorganize the functions of the land-based organization in order to cut costs, improve operational efficiency and safeguard the company’s future competitiveness and financial position.
Austal sets new revenue and profit records
-Revenue of $2.086 billion (FY2019: $1.851 billion), up 13%.
-EBIT of $130.4 million (FY2019: $92.8 million), up 41%.
-NPAT of $89.0 million (FY2019: $61.4 million), up 45%.
-Cash flow from operations of $164.5 million (FY2019: $164.5 million), almost identical.
BC Ferries announces mandatory face coverings
Beginning August 24, BC Ferries will require customers to wear non-medical masks or face coverings at terminals and while on board ferries.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has today confirmed it will retire two classic vessels, BOUDICCA and BLACK WATCH, as the company prepares to welcome two new ships, BOLETTE and BOREALIS, into the fleet.
The two new ships will take over existing itineraries for BOUDICCA and BLACK WATCH, when cruising begins again with the company’s ‘back in the water’ plan for next year.
Carnival Cruise Line's Next Excel-class Ship To Be Named CARNIVAL CELEBRATION
With the help of celebrity partners past and present, Carnival Cruise Line today announced that its next Excel-class ship arriving in 2022 to coincide with its 50th birthday celebration will be named CARNIVAL CELEBRATION.
