ForSea’s MERCANDIA IV to become freight-only vessel

In response to decreased car and passenger volumes, ForSea has announced that its 1989-built Superflex Class double-ender MERCANDIA IV will become a dedicated freight ferry as of 1 September.

Viking Line happy with July passenger carryings

Viking Line has just released its passenger statistics for the month of July which, the company says, were the second best in its history. Last month, Viking Line’s seven ships carried a total of 951,645 passengers, an increase of 640 passengers on July 2018. Only July 2017 was better thanks to added capacity on the Helsinki-Tallinn route in the form of the high-speed craft EXPRESS/VIKING FSTR.

Tallink Grupp has just published its July 2019 transport statistics which saw growth in all three segments, i.e. passengers, cargo transport units and private vehicles. During last month alone, 1,238,871 passengers were transported on Tallink Grupp's various services between Estonia-Finland, Estonia-Sweden, Finland-Sweden and Latvia-Sweden. This is a 1.2% increase on July 2018. It also represents a record number of passengers for the third month running in 2019, a record number of passengers for the month of July and the highest number of passengers in one month ever in the company's history.

Tour revenues increased 10% to $76.7 million

• Lindblad segment Net Yield increased 3% to $1,030 and Occupancy was 89%

Royal Caribbean Reports Record Second Quarter Earnings

Second Quarter 2019 Results:
• US GAAP Net Income was $472.8 million or $2.25 per share and Adjusted Net Income was $532.7 million or $2.54 per share. Last year, US GAAP Net Income was $466.3 million or $2.19 per share, and Adjusted Net Income was $482.2 million or $2.27 per share. 
• Gross Yields were up 9.4% in Constant-Currency (up 8.2% As-Reported). Net Yields were up 9.5% in Constant-Currency (up 8.1% As-Reported). 

Fincantieri Board of Directors approves 1H 2019 results

• Group results in line with the 2019 economic and financial guidance and with the 2018 – 2022 Business Plan 
• Revenues up 12% at euro 2,837 million (euro 2,527 million at 30 June 2018)
• EBITDA increase by 17% at euro 215 million with EBITDA margin at 7.6% (7.3% at 30 June 2018)
• Adjusted Net profit of euro 34 million (euro 39 million at 30 June 2018) 

Wärtsilä's Half year financial report January-June 2019

• Order intake decreased 9% to EUR 2,793 million (3,060)
• Order book at the end of the period increased 10% to EUR 6,470 million (5,904)
• Net sales increased 2% to EUR 2,368 million (2,312)
• Book-to-bill amounted to 1.18 (1.32)
• Comparable operating result increased 2% to EUR 215 million (211), which represents 9.1% of net sales (9.1)

Austal provides earnings guidance for FY2019 and FY2020

Austal expects FY2019 earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of approximately $92 million, with group revenue consistent with Austal’s previous revenue guidance of $1.8 billion – $1.9 billion. These preliminary financial results are subject to completion of the full year audit.

MEYER intensifies partnership with Stengel

The MEYER Group is intensifying its strategic relationship with its long-standing partner Stengel, thus further enhancing its clout. The two companies have joined forces to set up a new undertaking: Meyer Stengel Tubes UAB based in Vilnius, Lithuania as a spe-cialist for pipe isometrics to supply all three MEYER sites in Papenburg, Warnemünde and Turku from 2020. This step became necessary in the face of increasing cost pres-sure from state-owned Chinese shipyards which are building more and more special ships and cruise liners that used to be made above all in Europe.

COSCO Shipping strengthen the mutual cooperation with MacGregor

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed a framework purchasing agreement with COSCO Shipping to support MacGregor spare parts and service of equipment installed on their fleet of more than 1000 ships operating worldwide.

ClassNK participates in a Working Group for Zero Emission Alternative Fuels

Classification Society ClassNK is participating in the “Cross-industrial Working Group Related to Zero Emission Alternative Ship Fuels” established by the CCR Study Group (*). This working group which ClassNK acts as secretariat to aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the international value chain by use of methane synthesized through methanation technology which combines CO2 and hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources.

Finnlines calculated passenger-specific route CO2 emissions – Finnlines’ vessels are an eco-friendly choice for passengers

Passenger-specific carbon-dioxide figures for 2018 have been calculated on Finnlines’ passenger routes, Naantali–Kapellskär, Malmö–Travemünde and Helsinki–Travemünde. The figures will be updated on a yearly basis and this will be the base for future calculations.

Higher degree of standardization in Finland’s ferry network thanks to SCHOTTEL modernization

The SCHOTTEL After Sales Team has carried out a modernization on two double-ended ferries operated by FinFerries. Both vessels, capable of holding either 14 cars or up to 60 tons of payload, were originally equipped with various propeller systems manufactured in different years. For the retrofit, the state-owned operator requested a tailor-made concept to allow the same propeller assembly to be used. At the same time, the solution had to be quick and easy to install.

Marseille Fos boosts drive towards cutting air emissions

Among a string of new eco-friendly initiatives, the Marseille Fos port authority is to spend €20 million over the next six years to extend shoreside electrical connections for berthed vessels to every ferry, cruiseship and repair quay within the Marseille eastern harbour.

Positive experiences lead Seaspan to opt for SCHOTTEL again

SCHOTTEL has been chosen as propulsion supplier for two new build Ro-Ro ferries under construction at Damen Shipyards Mangalia, Romania. Each of the vessels ordered by Canadian Seaspan Ferries Corporation will be propelled by two SCHOTTEL Combi Drives and two SCHOTTEL Transverse Thrusters. The new ferries will join the company’s first two hybrid vessels, SEASPAN SWIFT and SEASPAN RELIANT, which were commissioned just over two years ago. Seaspan Ferries currently operates a fleet of seven ferries out of four terminals in British Columbia, Canada.

ForSea offers fast broadband with Nowhere Networks

Maiden call by Marella Cruises at the PORT OF KIEL

Maiden call by Marella Cruises in Kiel. In the early Tuesday morning (16th July) the cruise ship MARELLA EXPLORER berthed in the port of Kiel with 2,000 mostly anglophone passengers on-board. The vessel follows an itinerary of 14 days leading it all across the Baltic Sea. It started in Newcastle on 13th July and will conclude its cruise in the same port on 27th July.

More than six million people travel on Viking Line cruise ships each year. The company’s investments in its customer experience are reflected in the increased customer satisfaction figures. Viking Line received particularly good ratings for the high quality of its customer service.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has introduced an interactive new app to assist its guests in making the most of their cruise experience, both whilst on board Fred. Olsen's four ocean ships – BALMORAL, BRAEMAR, BOUDICCA and BLACK WATCH – and during their time ashore.
Fred. Olsen has created the new app in response to increasing demand from its guests for more technological solutions to help to inform and enhance their cruise experience. It will be available to download from the App Store (Apple) and Google Play (Android) free of charge, and is accessible on both mobile and tablet devices.
