Princess Cruises sells PACIFIC PRINCESS to undisclosed buyer

In line with Carnival Corporation’s plan to accelerate the removal of less efficient ships, Princess Cruises has sold the 30,312gt and 670-passenger capacity PACIFIC PRINCESS – the smallest vessel in the Princess Cruises fleet – to an undisclosed buyer.
Godby Shipping acquires BALTIC BRIGHT

Godby Shipping has entered an agreement to purchase the 1996-built and 1,068-lanemetre capacity BALTIC BRIGHT from its Swedish owner, Charterfrakt Baltic Carrier AB.

Royal Caribbean Group sells Azamara to Sycamore Partners

A definitive agreement has been entered which sees Royal Caribbean Group selling its Azamara brand, including its three-ship fleet and associated intellectual property, to Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm, in an all-cash carve-out transaction for USD 201 million.

Post-Brexit red tape sees Brittany Ferries opening its new weekly seasonal Cherbourg-Rosslare route opening more than two months ahead of schedule whilst Stena Line will operate a weekly Dublin-Cherbourg roundtrip operated by Dublin-Holyhead mainstay STENA ESTRID.

A French transport company – unnamed at present, supported by Agencia Marítima Blazquez of Cartagena – has inaugurated a weekly service between the ports of Cartagena in Murcia, Spain, and Toulon in France.

Tallink Grupp has announced that it has appointed Mr Ats Joorits as the new Managing Director for Tallink Silja AB, the shipping company’s Swedish subsidiary, as the company’s current Managing Director Marcus Risberg leaves the company to take up a new position as CEO of Destination Gotland.

Austal launches VOLTA series of electric powered high speed ferries

Austal Australia has launched the VOLTA™ series of electric-powered high speed ferry solutions, with the introduction of the Passenger Express 46V, a fully electric-powered 46 metre catamaran ferry design. Austal’s new VOLTA™ series is distinct from existing, electric-powered vessels in the marketplace by going beyond the replacement of diesel engines with an electric (battery) power plant, to offer a completely integrated design, construction and support solution - including on-shore charging infrastructure and in-service support programs for operators.
Alfa Laval, DTU Energy, Haldor Topsoe, Svitzer and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping are entering into a joint project to accelerate the development of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology. Funded by a grant from Danish EUDP (Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program), the partners will pursue a high-efficiency solution with the scalability to support marine industry decarbonization.
Havyard developing hydrogen zero-emission vessels in new segment
Europe is devoting extensive resources to achieving the climate goals, and the maritime industry is part of the solution. Green solutions and zero-emission vessels are in high demand in several segments.
Now, a European player has contracted Havyard to develop a new ship concept for cargo transport, and it must be emission free. The partner was first introduced to Havyard by Invest in Norway, who has been working with this company for the last 2 years in supporting their entry to the Norwegian maritime industry.
The technology group Wärtsilä has signed a framework agreement with Carnival Corporation, the global cruise ship operator, covering the supply and installation of Wärtsilä’s advanced waste water and dry waste treatment systems for up to 32 vessels across many of its operating brands. The framework is consistent with Carnival’s policies for compliance with the latest and most stringent environmental legislation. Signing of the framework took place in October 2020.
Corvus Energy introduces standardized ISO footprint containerized battery room solution
Corvus Energy is pleased to announce the introduction of the Corvus BOB, a containerized battery room solution for maximum flexibility in Battery-On-Board (BOB) vessel applications.
The Corvus BOB is a standardized, class-approved, modular battery room solution available in 10-foot and 20-foot ISO high-cube container sizes. The complete energy storage system (ESS) comes with battery, battery monitoring system (BMS), cooling, TR exhaust, and firefighting and detection system. The “Plug and Play battery room” simplifies integration into any system integrator’s power management system on board a ship.
Valmet introduces advanced water treatment technologies for marine industry
Valmet is enhancing emission control with its patented and fully automatic water treatment solution for the marine scrubber system and exhaust gas recirculation system. The solution goes in line with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines for the marine business.
The introduction of the Valmet Marine Water Treatment system is part of Valmet’s continuous development of marine solutions towards more sustainable ship transport. Already years ago, Valmet has been the first supplier to introduce a hybrid scrubber to the market.
Hamina in Finland becomes new partner in Baltic cruise network
The cruise network, Cruise Baltic, is proud to announce Hamina in Finland as the latest partner to join the network. The new partner brings the total number of cruise ports and destinations to 31, which is the highest number ever.
