Photo above: Having left Cantiere Navale Visentini in Porto Viro on Sunday 28 March, GNV BRIDGE arrived at Fincantieri’s repair yard in Trieste on 31 March. Concurrent with the drydocking and application of silicon coating, a scale 1/3 prototype of NAOS Ship and Boat Design’s in-house-designed Wing Sail Module with rotating solid fibreglass blade will be installed. Once completed, GNV BRIDGE will undergo its sea trials and subsequently taken on long-term charter by GNV. A sister ship to the 2020-built CIUDAD DE VALENCIA, GNV BRIDGE has a capacity of 2,566 lanemetres, 255 cars on two separate car decks and 1,000 persons. Polar vessel ULTRAMARINE joins Quark Expeditions

Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit has handed over the 199-passenger capacity ULTRAMARINE to US-based Quark Expeditions. Delivery took place in Split yesterday, 1 April.
Grimaldi adds capacity on Saint Petersburg line, reveals names of new ro-paxes

During a long interview with Shippax, to be published in full in ShippaxDesigns, Grimaldi Lines managing director Emanuele Grimaldi announced a further expansion plan for Finnlines, the group’s Finnish offshoot. He also revealed the names of the new state-of-the-art ro-pax ferries ordered for the Kapellskär-Långnäs-Naantali route.

Storylines selected Brodosplit to build exclusive residential cruise ship

US-based Storylines has announced that its luxury residential all-inclusive LNG-powered cruise ship NARRATIVE will be built by Brodosplit in Croatia with delivery expected in 2024. According to Storylines, engineering of the newbuild residential ship has already started with the first steel cutting expected later this year.
Royal Caribbean International welcomes 25th ship to its fleet

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has handed over ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS to Royal Caribbean Group. The second Quantum Ultra Class ship and sister ship to SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS, ODYSSEY OF THE SEAS closes the five-ship Quantum Class series that started with the delivery of QUANTUM OF THE SEAS in October 2014.

AURORA BOTNIA to be delivered in mid-June

Delivery of Wasaline’s 1,500-lanemetre and 500-passenger capacity AURORA BOTNIA, under construction at Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC), has been delayed by a few weeks with the hybrid gas-electric ro-pax ferry now expected to be handed over in mid-June.
Meyer Werft lands order from NYK Cruises

After a year of total limbo in the cruise ship building industry with zero orders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Meyer Werft announced that it had ‘virtually’ inked a contract with NYK Group in Japan for the construction of a luxury 51,950gt, 744-passenger capacity cruise ship, set to join NYK Cruises in 2025.

Incat Tasmania promised government loan

The Tasmanian Liberal Government, if returned to office at the forthcoming state election, will provide fast ferry builder Incat with an AUD 100 million (EUR 64.85 million) loan to tide it over a slump in orders.
LIEKUT set for Bass Strait

The Siem Shipping ro-ro LIEKUT has been handed over to Tasmania’s SeaRoad Shipping to begin a three-year bareboat charter for overnight Bass Strait service.

Stena Line temporarily introduces third ship between Travemünde and Liepaja

Ahead of the introduction of larger, more modern and faster tonnage, Stena Line’s 1,548-lanemetre ‘jack-of-all-trades’ ro-pax ferry STENA VINGA will be temporarily supplementing the 1,598-lanemetre capacity STENA GOTHICA and URD on the Travemünde-Liepaja route in the weeks to come.
CLdN to double frequency from Santander to Dublin and Liverpool thanks to the re-introduction of a triangular service

CLdN is further increasing its direct Ireland-Continent service, this time doubling the frequency of Santander-Dublin sailings to twice weekly, starting as from week 14. Liverpool will equally benefit from this move with a second weekly call.

Twenty-eight per cent drop in revenue for Attica Group in 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic saw the consolidated revenue of the Greek Attica Group plummet by EUR 115 million or 28% for the full year, ending at EUR 290.4 million. Yet, the group implemented effective adaption measures and successfully managed to maintain a positive EBITDA of EUR 40.47 million (EUR 78.02 million).
Naviera Armas-Trasmediterránea and the bondholders
The Spanish newspaper ‘Cinco Días’ has reported that the bondholders have agreed to finance Naviera Armas with a further EUR 160 million, but this includes the EUR 28 million injected in December – and spent, EUR 60 million to be used to repay the short-term loans from the capital venture funds HPS and Apollo, with the balance to be used to improve the group’s liquidity.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kyuden) announced that the companies have concluded a basic agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to two LNG-fueled ferries operated by MOL Group company Ferry Sunflower Limited (Ferry Sunflower) —the SUNFLOWER KURENAI and SUNFLOWER MURASAKI.

Historically strong result for Port of Trelleborg in 2020
In 2020, Port of Trelleborg delivers a historically very good result of 50.1 million SEK after financial items. The stated strategy of increasing the level of earnings in relation to the major investments that Port of Trelleborg has made and will make over the next few years, has been successful, despite an ongoing corona pandemic. The port lost 17 percent of the volume in April 2020 due to the corona situation and took measures on the cost side, which the port managed to keep for the rest of the year, while the volume returned after midsummer.
Bob Sanguinetti to step down from the UK Chamber of Shipping
The UK Chamber of Shipping has announced that Bob Sanguinetti has decided to step down as Chief Executive, to embark on a new role as Chief Executive of the Aberdeen Harbour Board, taking up his new role later this year. The recruitment process for a replacement will begin shortly.
