Order for new LNG-hybrid Siremar ferry at Sefine now official

Caronte & Tourist has confirmed to Shippax that it has signed a newbuilding contract with Sefine Shipyard in Yalova, Turkey for an 8,300gt SOLAS compliant LNG-hybrid ro-pax ferry that will serve the Aeolian Islands trade for Siremar.

Vard delivers CORAL GEOGRAPHER to Coral Expeditions

Almost two years after the delivery of CORAL ADVENTURER, Vard’s Vietnamese shipyard delivered sister ship CORAL GEOGRAPHER to its Australian owners, Coral Expeditions.

STENA NOVA sold to Philippines ferry giant

The 2003, Mitsubishi Shimonoseki-built STENA NOVA – the former YAMATO of Hankyu Ferry – has been sold to Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation (CLHC) for operation in the Philippines under the 2GO banner.

Attica Group starts new Cyclades and North Aegean service from Thessaloniki

Attica Group started its second service from northern Greece on 6 March as Blue Star Ferries’ 1,915-passenger and 418-car capacity ro-pax BLUE STAR MYCONOS (ex- NISSOS MYCONOS) inaugurated the new Thessaloniki- North Aegean and Cyclades service.

CLdN adds third Dublin sailing, increasing capacity on Humber and Thames corridors

To meet the surge in demand for unaccompanied trailer movements post-Brexit, CLdN will add a third weekly sailing from Zeebrugge to Dublin. At the same time, CLdN will add an extra weekly sailing from Zeebrugge to Killingholme and Purfleet, respectively.
End game for Tirrenia

It is understood that Onorato/Tirrenia-CIN has closed its much-heralded ro-ro service from Malta and Catania on the east coast of Sicily to Livorno and Genoa. Of late, they had already reduced capacity after earlier having employed their two largest Flensburger Class 4,076-lanemetre ro-ro ships, ALF POLLAK and MARIA GRAZIA ONORATO, on the route which are now re-deployed on its Sardinian lines from Livorno to Olbia and Cagliari.

COVID-19 impacted Irish Continental Group’s full-year financial results
Irish Continental Group has released its financial results for 2020. Revenues for the group ended at EUR 277.1 million (EUR 357.4 million), with EBITDA more than halved at EUR 42.1 million (EUR 86.8 million). EBIT (including non-trading items) ended at a loss of EUR -10.4 million (EUR 64.9 million).
Baleària’s 2020 financial results affected by COVID-19
Spanish ferry operator Baleària reported a 24% drop in turnover in 2020 to EUR 344 million with a loss of EUR 15 million. EBITDA ended at EUR 60 million.

SeaRoad’s LIEKUT departs for Australia

SeaRoad’s new charter vessel LIEKUT departed Cape Town on 9 March bound for Melbourne and is scheduled to arrive at Station Pier on 26 March. In preparation for LIEKUT’s arrival - which will service the Bass Strait route - SeaRoad has invested $15 million in developing the East Devonport terminal. This includes fendering, berth strengthening, and mooring bollards works, which are currently being completed for the 210-metre-long ship. In Melbourne, $600,000 of fendering relocation, pile restoration and mooring bollards works are also close to completion.
Linde to Supply World's First Hydrogen-Powered Ferry

Linde announced it has been selected by Norwegian ferry operator Norled to supply liquid hydrogen and related infrastructure to the world's first operational hydrogen-powered ferry, which will transport both cars and passengers.
ABB technology to support iconic U.S. ferry’s move to hybrid-electric operations

Maine ferry operator Casco Bay Lines has committed to an integrated hybrid-electric power and propulsion solution from ABB for its new vessel, in a technology step change along one of the longest-established ferry routes in the United States
The new ferry is expected to cut up to 800 tons of carbon dioxide per year, significantly improving air quality in Portland, Maine.
Wasaline can now simulate the trip of AURORA BOTNIA

AURORA BOTNIA, constructed by Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC), has now its own simulator. The project is a joint effort between RMC, Wasaline and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK). The simulator is in SAMK's premises in Rauma.

Wallenius SOL-weekly call in Kokkola
Wallenius SOL continues to expand its service, now strengthening its offering by adding Kokkola on the north- and southbound route Antwerp - Zeebrugge – Tilbury.Since the end of February, Wallenius SOL calls at Finland's third largest port - Kokkola. The two sister ships TUNDRALAND and THULELAND will be carrying container cargo on a weekly schedule to and from the port.
A new collaboration between the biggest commercial vessel operator on the Thames, GPS Marine and Green Biofuels, the UK’s leading provider of clean advanced fuel GreenD+, will help reduce London’s carbon emissions, improve local air quality, and boost the Thames’ drive to clean up and reduce pollution.
MacGregor to supply environmentally sustainable PCTC solutions to NYK Line
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured a new equipment order for 4 PCTC vessels. The vessels will be built at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd for Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). The order is booked into Cargotec's first quarter 2021 order intake, with deliveries planned to commence during the fourth quarter of 2022 and completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
DFDS A/S: February volume report: Freight up 4.5% as UK-EU trade begins to stabilise
DFDS reports monthly ferry volumes for freight and passengers to provide additional insight into the development of volume trends in DFDS’ European route network.
Royal Caribbean Group re-joins the UK Chamber of Shipping
The UK Chamber of Shipping is delighted to announce Royal Caribbean Group, the owner of three global cruise holiday brands: Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea, and one of the world’s largest cruise operators, has re-joined the Chamber.
Lindblad Expeditions Announces Acquisition of DuVine Cycling and Off the Beaten Path
Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc, a global provider of expedition cruises and adventure travel experiences announced that it has acquired majority stakes in DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co., a leading luxury cycling and adventure travel company, and Off the Beaten Path LLC, a leading active travel operator with a specialization in U.S. National Parks. These acquisitions further broaden and deepen Lindblad’s platform of high-quality experiential product offerings in robust adventure travel sectors, including the rapidly growing cycling tourism and domestic expedition market.
The Swedish ferry company has increased the number of female managers it employs by an impressive 42% in only 5 years and has the ambitious target of ensuring they account for 30% of all management by the end of next year.
Stena Line concludes: Halmstad was the right move
On 1 February 2020 Stena Line opened a new ferry route between Halmstad and Grenaa. After a challenging first year with COVID-19 Stena Line concludes it was the right decision. Freight volumes increased by 15 %, exceeded expectations on the new route.
