Fincantieri first half 2017 results
Results are in line with the targets of the 2016-2020 Business: revenues up 1.3% compared to the same period of 2016, EBITDA margin at 6.3% marking an improvement of more than 20% from 5.0% of the first half of 2016.

Japan’s NYK has been fined AUD 25m after being found guilty of criminal cartel conduct in the shipment of vehicles from Asia, Europe and the USA to Australia between 2009 and 2012.
July passenger record – also for Tallink
After Viking Line, it is now time for competitor AS Tallink Grupp to announce a passenger record for the month of July. The ships in the Group carried 1,208,156 passengers last month – a record in the company’s history.
Second ferry contract for Aulong Shipbuilding
A second high-speed passenger ferry contract has been awarded to Aulong Shipbuilding, a joint venture by Austal Limited and Guandong Jianglong Shipbuilding of Zhuhai, China.
Polferries in talks with the UK’s Thanet Council according to local press
Regional British online news service Kent Online announced today (2 August) that “a leading Polish ferry company” is in talks with Thanet Council about possible ferry services from the Port of Ramsgate.
Greek government cancels LANE Sea Lines contract
The long career of ferry veteran VITSENTZOS KORNAROS could be coming to an end with the 1976-built vessel, originally Townsend Thoresen’s VIKING VISCOUNT (and later PRIDE OF WINCHESTER), lying at Perama with owners LANE Sea Lines reportedly unable to pay for engine repairs or crew wages.
HANSEATIC to be chartered by One Ocean Expedition
As earlier reported, HANSEATIC will remain on charter to Hapag-Lloyd until the Autumn 2018 when the five-star expedition cruise will be transferred to the Canadian expedition organizer One Ocean Expeditions, Squamish BC.
BC Ferries’ third Salish-Class double-ender entering service early
SALISH RAVEN, BC Ferries’ third of three new Salish-Class vessels, will be introduced on 3 August following ongoing mechanical issues with the 1964-built QUEEN OF NANAIMO which is set to retire from the BC Ferries fleet this fall.
July passenger record for Viking Line
During the month of July, Viking Line carried a record 1,021,890 passengers on its Baltic ferry and cruise network, a 9% increase compared to July 2016.
Restart of Gijon - Saint-Nazaire MoS progressing
Local press reports state that Baleària is showing interest in taking up the Gijon - Saint-Nazaire route, which has remained deserted since LD Lines decided to discontinue operating it.
