A new ro-pax, FERRY OSUMI 11 for Kagoshima-based Iwasaki Corporation was launched at Naikai Zosen Setoda shipyard in Onomichi, Hiroshima prefecture.
FERRY OSUMI 11 is the first ferry of two ferries for Iwasaki Corporation and is expected to be completed in this autumn. She is set to enter service between Kamoike and Tarumizu in Kagoshima prefecture (14.5km).
deugro announces two new wind turbine transporting ro-ro’s in cooperation with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Amasus Offshore B.V.
deugro Denmark and its partners Siemens Gamesa and Amasus Offshore B.V. will bring two newly designed ro-ro vessels—customized for transporting offshore wind turbine components—to the market. Siemens Gamesa and deugro have entered into a long-term charter agreement for the two newbuild vessels, ROTRA FUTURA and ROTRA HORIZON, which will be delivered in 2025.

Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö had its turnover increased by 36% to EUR 39.3m in Q1 compared to the same period last year. Operating profit amounted to *EUR -5.4m (EUR -5.6m), while the result for the accounting period was EUR -5.6m (EUR -4.0m). 534,178 passengers were carried (+51%).
Construction milestones met for LOCH INDAAL and first of two Little Minch ferries
Two milestones were met in the construction of four CMAL vessels at Cemre shipyard in Turkey on 24 May. The first saw the keel laying for the newly named LOCH INDAAL, the sister ship of ISLE OF ISLAY, which will both serve Islay and Jura. The second marked the steel cutting of the first as-yet-unnamed Little Minch vessel.
Continued increase in Swedish passenger traffic during 2022

The number of Swedish passengers increased for the second year in a row and is approaching the levels seen before the pandemic broke out in 2020 according to official statistics from Trafikanalys. That is still around 5 million passengers fewer than in 2018 and 2019. The number of passengers to and from Swedish ports in international traffic increased by 59 percent, to 21.7 million in 2022 compared to 2021.
Arriving passengers in domestic traffic were 1.85 million, the same level as in 2021. This shows new official statistics from Trafikanalys.
GNV charters CADENA 3 for the summer

Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) has chartered the 2,600 lm capacity CADENA 3 for the busy summer months. This time the 2003-built ro-ro will operate between Genoa and Palermo, on the island of Sicily, providing resilience to GNV’s services from the Italian mainland.

Following the delivery of their new CAP DE BARBARIA, Balearia have sold its 1980-built POSIDONIA to Italy’s Caremar which have meanwhile renamed it NEREIDE.
Ascension Day traffic record for Bornholmslinjen

Never before have there been more people and cars back and forth to Bornholm during an Ascension holiday like the one in 2023. Almost 48,000 traveled from and including Wednesday to Sunday, thereby breaking the record from 2022.
This year the new EXPRESS 5, together with EXPRESS 1 shared the task of getting passengers and cars back and forth to Bornholm.
Corsica Ferries to seek optimal sustainability with Wärtsilä’s Decarbonisation Modelling service

Wärtsilä will carry out Decarbonisation Modelling on two vessels in the Corsica Ferries fleet. The study will create a digital model of the two ships to simulate the effect of various decarbonisation technologies on their environmental compliance. This will enable accurate evaluation of the efficiency gains possible through the implementation of the latest technical innovations. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in March 2023.
Incat Tasmania delivers high-speed catamaran for South Korea

Incat Tasmania has handed over the 76-metre high-speed passenger catamaran EL DORADO EXPRESS to South Korea’s Daezer Ferry. EL DORADO EXPRESS is predominately a passenger craft with ramp and cargo space forward.
She will operate for Daezer Ferry on the crossing between Pohang and Ulleung, an island 117 nautical miles off the eastern coast of South Korea supporting the needs of local residents and providing a service for tourists to the Islands.
