Green light for new GBP 200 million Tilbury2 deep water ro-ro terminal

Current and potential ro-ro operators using the UK’s Port of Tilbury got the news they wanted on 20 February when the Department for Transport gave the green light for the construction of Tilbury2 – the new GBP 200 million satellite port for the Port of Tilbury which will feature a deepwater ro-ro terminal – which will become the UK’s largest ro-ro port for unaccompanied freight units when it enters service in mid-2020.

P&O Ferries and its logistics arm back in the hands of DP World

In what appears to be an internal transfer, DP World PLC has announced the acquisition of the holding company of P&O Ferries and P&O Ferrymasters for a purchase consideration of GBP 322 million, a transaction that is subject to customary completion conditions and is expected to close in the first half of 2019.

Continued growth for Fjord1 in 2018

Fjord1 has reported its 2018 financial figures, showing an 11 % increase in revenue, ending at NOK 3.1 billion (NOK 2.8 billion). EBITDA grew from NOK 985 million in 2017 to NOK 1,051 million in 2018.

New thrusters on Scandlines’ hybrid ferries will reduce underwater noise and air emissions in the Fehmarn Belt

All thrusters – the ships’ propulsion systems – on Scandlines’ four hybrid ferries on the route between Puttgarden (Germany) and Rødby (Denmark) will be exchanged with new thrusters that allow a homogenous water flow, which gives less noise and vibration. The exchange lessens the environmental impact significantly. Reduced underwater noise and less vibration can improve the conditions for the marine life in the Fehmarn Belt area – among these the harbour porpoises. Furthermore, easier water flow during propulsion ultimately reduces emissions, including CO2.

Tallink Grupp completes changes to Management Board

Tallink Grupp has this morning/today announced to the stock exchange that it has made further changes to the membership of the group’s Management Board. Based on the recommendations from the Chairman of the Management Board of Tallink Grupp, Mr Paavo Nõgene, the Supervisory Board of the group appointed Mrs Piret Mürk-Dubout to the Management Board with effect from 15 April 2019. The Supervisory Board additionally recalled Mr Andres Hunt from the Management Board following his resignation. The mandate of Mr Hunt concludes on 26 February 2019.

Halton to deliver design hoods for a new luxury cruise ship

Halton will expand its supply of indoor air solutions from cruise ship cabins and galleys to special solutions for ship restaurants. The company will supply a total of 31 made-to-order custom-designed energy efficient hoods – a first of its kind on the market.

SCHOTTEL: new shallow-water thruster SPJ 30 extends power range up to 150 kW

SCHOTTEL, manufacturer of marine propulsion systems, is presenting the new SCHOTTEL Pump Jet type SPJ 30 – a state-of-the-art shallow-water thruster that is suitable for a wide range of different vessel types, such as passenger vessels, ferries, work vessels and freighters. Available in the power class up to 150 kW, the azimuth thruster is characterized by optimal efficiency and gives the vessel maximum manoeuvrability. The thrust and propulsion efficiency have been further enhanced, particularly by means of CFD optimizations.

Tallink Grupp’s cruise ship BALTIC QUEEN returned from Gdansk Shipyard, Poland, at the beginning of the week meaning daily ferry service on the Tallinn-Stockholm route has resumed.
