Former NEFELI to return to Greece following a five-year absence
According to Greek sources, Navibus’ LA GALERA – the former NEFELI of Hellenic Seaways – will head for Greece again to join newly-created Sea Speed Lines on services in the Sporades.
Sea trials for BLUE STAR PATMOS and AQUA BLUE – Seajets update
Shippax photographer George Giannakis spotted BLUE STAR PATMOS and AQUA BLUE off Piraeus this afternoon (7 February) during their sea trials following several months (for the former ship) and years (for the latter one) of inactivity.

Navimag Ferries ordered a ro-pax in China
According to Shippax investigations, Navimag Ferries of Chile has ordered a 150m ro-pax ferry that is being built by COSCO Guangdong Shipyard in China.

Southampton, the UK’s number one cruise ship port, broke all records in 2017 when two million cruise passengers passed through the south coast port – a figure that is expected to be beaten in 2018.
CAROLINE RUSS to stay longer on the Gothenburg-Kiel route
The overhaul of STENA SCANDINAVICA which arrived at Remontowa in Gdansk on 7 January, takes longer than first expected. The 2003-built ro-pax was supposed to be reintroduced between Gothenburg and Kiel on 1 February, following her drydocking and installation of scrubbers.

The official keel laying of Stena’s first of four E-Flexer-Class ro-paxes at AVIC Weihai Shipyard was laid on Friday 2 February in the presence of Stena Line CEO Niclas Mårtensson.

Stena Line seeks funding to apply cold ironing at Port of Oslo
To further reduce emissions, the municipality of Oslo envisages to apply cold ironing for all international ferries using the port by 2020. By 2030 emissions at the port should be halved and Stena Line is now seeking funding from the state fund Enova to upgrade the 1981-built STENA SAGA with cold ironing from Processkontroll Elektriska AB.
Further growth for Stena Line’s Belfast hub
2017 marked a record trading year for Stena Line’s Belfast hub with a throughput of 514,000 freight units spread over the company’s three routes to and from Cairnryan, Birkenhead (Liverpool) and Heysham – a 3% increase on 2016.
A sister ship for SCENIC ECLIPSE
Only a few days after the launching of the 168m by 21.5m discovery cruise yacht SCENIC ECLIPSE at the Uljanik Shipyard, Scenic has signed a contract to build a sister ship – SCENIC ECLIPSE II – which is due for delivery in May 2020.
Agreement signed for 50% acquisition of STX France by Fincantieri
On Friday, 2 January, Fincantieri, through its subsidiary Fincantieri Europe, signed the purchase agreement for the 50% takeover of STX France from the French State.
Strong growth for ferry services to Corsica
The ‘Observatoire Régional des Transports de la Corse’ has just released its 2017 ferry statistics with the throughput of trailers reaching an all-time high.
Boreal and Wärtsilä to jointly develop hydrogen-powered ferries
Boreal Sea and Wärtsilä Ship Design have entered into an agreement to develop a hybrid hydrogen-electric ferry and a fully electric ferry to be introduced on the Hjelmeland-Skipavik-Nesvik route, Norway, in 2021.
Wightlink’s new flagship successfully launched in Turkey
The most environmentally friendly ferry yet designed for operation on cross-Solent services, Wightlink’s 89.7m VICTORIA OF WIGHT, was launched at Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard today, 7 February.
