The dire financial situation of Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft has resulted in a top management change with Rüdiger Fuchs no longer being the yard’s MD. He bade farewell to the company at a staff meeting today, 31 January.

Irish Ferries is about to go into battle with the Republic of Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA) after it decided that the ferry operator should pay compensation, under EU regulations, to passengers who had booked travel on cancelled voyages in 2018 on its much delayed new ro-pax W.B. YEATS. In fact the ferry operator is so incensed by the NTA decision that it will appeal the decision in court – even if it has to go to the European Court of Justice!

Molslinjen’s Auto Express 109m catamaran EXPRESS 4 has been handed over by builders Austal and left the yard’s Henderson yard in Western Australia on 30 January, its first stop being Sri Lanka where it is expected in the late evening of 4 February.

The National Statistics Office of Malta has released the annual traffic figures between the main island of Malta and Gozo.

A total of 5,758,318 passengers have travelled between Cirkewwa (Malta) and Mgarr (Gozo) – an increase of 7% on 2017 and 12.1% on 2016. Car traffic increased at a slightly faster pace of 7.5% to 1,659,902 units – 13% more than in 2016.

CLdN cancels newbuilding contract at Uljanik shipyard

Brodosplit starts production of polar expedition ship for Quark Expeditions

The first steel for Quark Expeditions’ polar expedition cruise ship was cut at Brodosplit on 28 January. The 128m long ship will be built to Polar Class 6 standards and, when delivered in 3Q 2020, will accommodate 200 passengers in 103 cabins.

Record 2018 results for Royal Caribbean Cruises

Total revenues reached USD 9.5 billion for the year, compared to USD 8.8 billion in 2017. US GAAP Net Income was USD 1.8 billion or USD 8.56 per share and Adjusted Net Income was USD 1.9 billion or USD 8.86 per share in 2018 versus US GAAP and Adjusted Net Income of USD 1.6 billion or USD 7.53 per share in 2017.
