Carnival back to Fremantle
Carnival Group has decided to return to home-porting ships in the Western Australian port of Fremantle after the state government committed to funding improvements at regional ports.
Tasmania’s TT-Line breaks records
Tasmanian’s Bass Strait operator TT-Line has reported a record 2016-17, with the refurbished SPRIT OF TASMANIA twins recording a 4% lift in passenger numbers.

Yesterday (18 October) the keel-laying ceremony was held at the VARD shipyard in Romania for HANSEATIC INSPIRATION, the second of the two new expedition cruise ships built for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
Rønne Havn’s expansion about to start
A contract has been signed for the expansion of the commercial port of Rønne Havn on the Isle of Bornholm with the first spadework estimated to take place at the end of 2017.
Keel-laying ceremony for Viking’s sixth ship from Fincantieri
Yesterday (18 October) the keel-laying ceremony was held for the sixth of the eight cruise ships Viking Ocean Cruises ordered from Fincantieri. The ceremony took place at the shipyard in Ancona for the ship with a scheduled delivery in 2019.

That´s why limiting presentations to a single slide can be an idea, but even that may be pushing it in today’s world where the span of attention is getting limited to 140 characters. However, Twitter just launched a daring experiment increasing the length of tweets to 280 characters, so I would experiment with the double number of slides.
CMAL annual report released
Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), the company that owns the ferries, ports, harbours and infrastructure necessary for the ferry services serving the west coast of Scotland and the Clyde estuary, have released their annual report for the year ending 30 March 2017.
FRS to expand activities in Motril
An official bulletin just published reveals that FRS Iberia has requested a concession to occupy an area of public use of 12,212.75m² on the Azucenas Pier, together with a concession for 3,615.94m² of related water area, whilst seeking permission to build a passenger and freight terminal for its own exclusive use.
Spanish vessel charter update
Trasmediterranea has chartered in the ro-ro MAESTRO SEA, a 1986, Danish-built vessel, with a 2,171-lanemetre intake.
Africa Morocco Link’s Almeria-Nador route inaugurated
Africa Morocco Link (AML) inaugurated operations between Almeria and Nador on Sunday 15 October with the DIAGORAS sailing at 13.00 from Almeria.
HH-Ferries to increase capacity between Helsingör and Helsingborg
As of 1 December, HH-Ferries will increase its capacity on the 20-minute Helsingör-Helsingborg shuttle service by extending HAMLET’s sailing schedule.
Indian Prime Minister to inaugurate country’s first ro-ro route (updated)
Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister, is to inaugurate India’s first ro-ro route between Dahej and Ghogha on 22 October.
Russia-North Korea ferry route resumed after two-month stop
A regular cargo-passenger ferry operation between the Russian Far East port of Vladivostok and the northeastern North Korean city of Rason was restarted in May but aborted on 22 August after Russian operator InvestStroiTrest failed to pay RUB 1.5m to the Vladivostok terminal.
Record Interferry conference reviews issues with financial impact
The challenges and opportunities posed by alternative fuels, safety management and social media dominated Interferry’s 42nd annual conference in Split, Croatia, where a record 370 delegates shared insights on ship technologies, safety issues including cybersecurity and the customer experience.
GNV opened new Naples-Termini Imerese link
Italian ferry operator GNV has launched a new weekly connection between Naples and Termini Imerese, Sicily.
First two Metal Shark-built high-speed cats for Potomac Riverboat Company commissioned
The first two 149-passenger high-speed craft built by Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark have been commissioned by Washington, D.C.-based Potomac Riverboat Company, a division of Entertainment Cruises.
Viking FSTR taken out of service five days early
The chartered high-speed catamaran Viking FSTR – officially named EXPRESS – will be taken out of service by Viking Line as of tomorrow 17 October, instead of 22 October as earlier planned.
Ports of Stockholm set a new cruise passenger record
The 2017 international cruise ship season (May until October) ended on 13 October for the Ports of Stockholm, reaching record highs with some 600,000 passengers, giving a contribution to the Stockholm region of more than SEK 500m. The season saw 263 cruise ships calling at the Ports of Stockholm, of which 73 were turnarounds.
P&O Ferries further grew the freight business between Cairnryan and Larne during Q3
P&O Ferries saw the highest number of lorries and trailers travelling on its ferries between Cairnryan and Larne in the third quarter of the year than it has in any Q3 since 2011.
Government plans to tender ferry services create uncertainty in the Magdalen Islands
Back in May the federal government in Canada proposed a totally revamped system for ferry services in East Canada with ferry services being put out for tender.
Seatruck Ferries adds a Liverpool-Dublin sailing following increased demand
Commencing on 17 October, Irish Sea freight operator Seatruck Ferries will add additional Tuesday morning sailings to its busy Liverpool-Dublin route.
