Winners of the Shippax Award 2020

Now in their 25th year, the idea behind Shippax Awards is to honour trendsetters and, while this has always been ship-specific, this year for the first time, a company has been awarded too. In the opinion of the impartial jury, it has gone to great lengths to improve its environmental footprint.
The awarded ships were all delivered between 1 January and 31 December 2019. The ferry industry has been at the forefront in shipping in implementing green technologies, something very much in evidence in the list of awarded ships. The jury has gained first-hand experience of all the ships through a combination of onboard inspections, GA-plan examinations, and other relevant data providing relevant information about the candidate vessels.

Shippax earlier reported about the sale of Armas-Trasmediterránea’s VILLA DE TEROR to Canada for CTMA use. The purchase has been officialised now with the Canadian government paying CAD 155 million (EUR 99.57 million).

Fjord Line is further streamlining its business

Whilst the company has secured liquidity (see earlier reports), Fjord Line is preparing itself for the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Steps now being prepared would lead to 200 people to be dismissed or laid off, the company said in a statement today, 16 September.

Molslinjen’s 1978-built POVL ANKER arrived in Frederikshavn on 13 September to be drydocked at Orskov Yard to start the second phase of her major upgrade project, which will see significant work undertaken on the vessel’s technical areas. This work is scheduled to be completed on 20 October and echo POVL ANKER’s historic past, while continue its future in today’s eco-friendly world.

Production of the 800-passenger and 1,500-lanemetre capacity AURORA BOTNIA has reached a new phase following the ship’s floating on 11 September. Once floated, the 24,300gt ro-pax ferry was shifted to the other side of Rauma Marine Constructions’ (RMC) large building dock for outfitting.
