Greece’s Fast Ferries has bought the Austal Auto Express 86 catamaran TURGUT ÖZAL from Istanbul Deniz Otobüsleri (IDO). The high-speed vehicle-passenger craft has been taken over by its new owners in Istanbul.

Brittany Ferries has chartered Bore’s 1,511-lanemetre ro-ro BORE BAY until the end of this year to replace the 1,690-lanemetre MN PELICAN on its twice weekly freight-only service between Poole and Bilbao.

In December last year, Shippax already reported that SHK Line Group was planning a new six times weekly ro-pax service from Yokosuka to Shinmoji (Kita Kyushu). The Japan Maritime Daily, has today (29 August) revealed more details about the new service and the ro-pax ferries that will ply the 527-nautical-mile route when completed for newly created Tokyo Kyushu Ferry in June 2021.

Stena AB 1H financial result for 2019

Stena AB, with business operations ranging from ferry operations, offshore drilling, shipping, properties and recycling, has released its 1H report for 2019. Total revenue of the ferry operations increased from SEK 6,328 million to SEK 6,582, while the ro-ro activities fell from SEK 268 million to SEK 217 million. EBITDA increased for both segments, ending at SEK 1,369 million (SEK 1,065 million) for the ferry segment, and SEK 151 million (SEK 146 million) for the ro-ro business. 

Irish Continental Group grew its business during 1H

Irish Continental Group has released its 1H 2019 trading update, including volumes and financials. Revenue for the period ended at EUR 166.8 million (+6.1%) and EBITDA (pre non-trading items) ended at EUR 30 million (+14.9%), while EBIT (including non-trading items) ended at EUR 26.5 million (-12%).

Kongsberg increases earnings profitability and order intake in q2 2019

Order intake MNOK 9,617 in Q2, compared with MNOK 5,299 in Q2 2018 - an increase of MNOK 4,318 (81.5%). Commercial Marine accounts for MNOK 2,645 of the increase.
Operating revenues MNOK 6,244 in Q2, compared with MNOK 3,525in Q2 2018 - an increase of MNOK 2,719 (77.1%). Commercial Marine accounts for MNOK 2,029 of the
EBITDA MNOK 479 in Q2 (MNOK 371 excl. IFRS 16 effects), compared with MNOK 241 in Q2 the previous year. EBITDA margin of 7.7% in Q2 (5.9% excl. IFRS 16 effects), compared with 6.8% in Q2 2018.

Wärtsilä’s Auto Gasification solution to provide sustainable waste disposal for Princess Cruises vessel

The technology group Wärtsilä will supply and install an Auto Gasification solution for the REGAL PRINCESS, a Princess Cruises vessel. This innovative technology will enable the safe disposal of waste from the ship through a self-fuelling thermal decomposition unit, thereby significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It will also lessen the requirement to offload waste at shore facilities. Princess Cruises is a Carnival Corporation & plc brand operating as part of the Holland America Group. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in July 2019.

The first phase of the renewed D-terminal at Port of Tallinn will open its doors to passengers in two months

Active construction is currently underway in the D-terminal of the Port of Tallinn being built by Nordecon, in order to open the first phase of construction of the renovated D-terminal to passengers within two months. A digital twin of the new D-Terminal building and the remodeled part which aims to make the building's life cycle more efficient was created in the BIM implementation model. The completion of the extension and reconstruction work of the port is scheduled for summer 2020.

Höegh Autoliners selects Marlink-managed IT services to meet future IT compliance regulations

Marlink announced that it has signed a new agreement with Höegh Autoliners to supply the international transport and logistics company’s 38 car and truck carriers with the industry-leading maritime-optimised IT solution, KeepUp@Sea, which is part of Marlink’s new ITLink portfolio.

Reduce the loss of lives at sea

SOS ((Multi-) Sensor Offshore Safety System) helps to reduce the loss of lives at sea. It is a new automatic man overboard alert system, which uses advanced integrated sensor technology to detect any person falling overboard in real time and immediately alarms the crew in such an event.
