DFDS exercises option for sixth 6,700-lanemetre ro-ro at Jinling
DFDS has exercised its option for a sixth – and understood to be last – 6,700-lanemetre or 450-trailer ro-ro ferry built at Jinling Shipyard in China.
Geelong-Melbourne commuter ferry set for 2019
A new fast ferry service linking Victorian capital Melbourne and the state’s largest regional city Geelong will get underway early in 2019, operated by Port Phillip Ferries (PPF).

Cemre launched the second hull in a series of five Fjord1 electric ferries
The hull of the 111-metre long and 3,000-gross-ton SULØY has been launched at Cemre, Turkey. The double-ender will have a capacity of 120 cars when entering service on the Norwegian domestic Hareid to Sulesund route in early 2019. The hull of yard number 137 will now be towed to Havyard in Norway for final outfitting.
Sardinia launches tender for cross-Bonifacio Strait winter ferry service
The Regional Government of Sardinia has launched a public tender to guarantee a winter ferry service between Santa Teresa Gallura (Sardinia) and Bonifacio (Corsica).

Passenger record for Eckerö Line
Single-ship operator Eckerö Line reached a record of about 1,035,000 passengers for the first six months of the year on its Helsinki-Tallinn route, serviced by the 2001-built, 36,365gt FINLANDIA. This number represented a 17% increase compared to the same period last year.
Financials
Lower sales but improved income for Viking Line during 1H 2018
Consolidated sales of the Viking Line Group for the period 1 January-30 June 2018 were EUR 225.7 million (EUR 235.5 million for 1H 2017). Operating income totalled EUR -13.5 million (EUR -15.0 million).
Continued growth for DFDS during 2Q 2018
In 2Q, revenue increased by 6% to DKK 3.9 billion driven by the expansion of the route network in the Mediterranean as well as continued growth in the freight activities in northern Europe. This was also the key driver of the increase in EBITDA before special items by 9% to DKK 802 million.
Second quarter earnings reported by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings
Revenue increased 13.2% to USD 1.5 billion compared to USD 1.3 billion in 2017. Net Revenue increased 13.7% to USD 1.2 billion compared to USD 1.0 billion in 2017. GAAP net income was USD 226.7 million or EPS of USD 1.01 compared to USD 198.5 million or USD 0.87 in the prior year.
Tallink Grupp: freight volumes soared – 1H results affected by higher fuel price
Sales revenue decreased by 2.6%, ending at EUR 439.6 million (unaudited). The group’s unaudited net loss in the first half of the year amounted to EUR 4.3 million (EUR 2.4 million during 1H 2017).
