HH Ferries Group: significant freight growth during Q2
The positive development for Scandlines’ Helsingborg-Helsingör route continues with a strong growth in the number of transported trucks during the second quarter of 2018. The number of transported trucks grew by more than 11% to 121,000 (Q2 2017: 109,000), and transported goods increased at the same pace to 1,389,000 tonnes (Q2 2017: 1,255,000 tonnes).
RFI launches a EUR 53.5 million tender for a new railway ferry
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) – the Italian railways subsidiary that operates a cross-Messina Strait train ferry service under the Bluferries banner – has launched a public tender for the construction of a new ro-pax suited to transport railway wagons, passengers, cars and heavy vehicles as well as dangerous goods – both packaged and in bulk (tanks/tank trailers).
HONFLEUR’s keel laid down at FSG
Four days after the christening and launching ceremony of the 4,076-lanemetre freight ro-ro MARIA GRAZIA ONORATO, the keel of what will become Brittany Ferries’ HONFLEUR – the first LNG-powered ro-pax to operate between the UK and the Continent – was laid down on the covered slipway of Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG).
DFDS extends charter of Grimaldi Holding-owned REGINA SEAWAYS
DFDS has extended the charter of REGINA SEAWYAS for one more year as the current charter contract was due to end on 2 November 2018. Built by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in 2010 as ENERGIA, REGINA SEAWAYS is a ‘Coraggio Class’ ro-pax that is owned by Grimaldi Holding, a company founded and helmed by Aldo Grimaldi.
Baleària promotes Malaga sailings with a JV with Peregar
Baleària has strengthened its links with the Port of Malaga, by entering into a joint venture (JV) with long-established Malaga operator, Marítima Peregar, to operate services linking Malaga with the Ports of Melilla and Tangier-Med.
Strongest July carryings since 2015 for P&O Ferries’ Calais-Dover route
The hot summer in large parts of Europe has inspired more people to travel between Britain and the Continent by ferry, which saw P&O Ferries register record carryings for the month of July with 161,468 cars between Dover and Calais during the month - a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Robust growth for Viking Line during the month of July
A total of 951,010 passengers sailed on Viking Line’s seven vessels in the month of July, making it the second most successful month ever, only beaten by last year’s +1,000,000 passengers that was reached thanks to the additional capacity offered by the chartered high-speed craft EXPRESS (sailing under the VIKING FSTR banner) that served the Helsinki–Tallinn route.
Nankai Ferry Co. to replace FERRY TSURUGI by newbuilding
Nankai Ferry Co., the operator of the 61km Wakayama-Tokushima route, has announced that it will replace the 1997-built 2,604grt FERRY TSURUGI by a newbuilding with similar characteristics.
The Fjords is building a third carbon fibre vessel at Brødrene Aa
The Fjords, co-owned 50/50 by Fjord1 and Flåm AS, has announced that a third carbon fibre vessel is under construction at Brødrene Aa. The newbuilding will follow the 2016-delivered VISION OF THE FJORDS (and Shippax Award winner), and the FUTURE OF THE FJORDS that went into service in April this year.
Norled orders two more diesel electric hybrid double-enders at Remontowa
Hot on the heels of an order for two diesel electric hybrid LMG Marin-designed double-enders of the LMG 120-DEH type at Remontowa, Norwegian fjord ferry operator Norled has ordered two more ships of the same class.
Best-ever passenger figure in a single month for Tallink Grupp
Following a record-breaking month of June, Tallink Grupp’s passenger number continued to soar in the month of July. A total of 1,223,901 passengers were carried – an increase of 1.3% on July 2017.

Second quarter earnings reported by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings
GAAP net income was USD 226.7 million or EPS of USD 1.01 compared to USD 198.5 million or USD 0.87 in the prior year. Revenue increased 13.2% to USD 1.5 billion compared to USD 1.3 billion in 2017.
Tallink Grupp: freight volumes soared – 1H results affected by higher fuel price
Sales revenue decreased by 2.6%, ending at EUR 439.6 million (unaudited). The group’s unaudited net loss in the first half of the year amounted to EUR 4.3 million (EUR 2.4 million during 1H 2017).
Second quarter financial results for Lindblad Expeditions Holding
Tour revenues increased 25% to USD 69.5 million. Adjusted EBITDA increased 117% to USD 11.5 million.
Second quarter earnings reported by Royal Caribbean Cruises
US GAAP Net Income was USD 466.3 million or USD 2.19 per share and Adjusted Net Income was USD 482.2 million or USD 2.27 per share versus US GAAP and Adjusted Net Income of USD 369.5 million or USD 1.71 per share in 2017. Total revenues reached USD 2.34 billion in the quarter, up from USD 2.2 billion in the same quarter last year.
