Eckerö Linjen, the subsidiary of Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö that services the Eckerö–Grisslehamn route with the 1,500-passenger and 515-lanemetre ECKERÖ, has released its 2018 statistics, showing a 3.3% passenger increase (968,290 in total) and a 3% vehicle increase on 2017.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced that it has sold its 1990-built BREMEN to a subsidiary of the Swiss river cruise ship owner Scylla AG. The ocean cruise ship will be transferred in May 2021, and then chartered out by Scylla under a new name.

On Thursday 16 January, Stena Line’s first E-Flexer under construction at AVIC Weihai was floated. She will remain in the building dock to be floated out later this quarter. Coinciding with the floating ceremony, there was the keel laying of yard number W0267. This is the third E-Flexer which will emerge as GALICIA on a long-term charter to Brittany Ferries.

(NCLH) and Fincantieri have signed an EUR 474 million contract for a new ultra-luxury cruise ship for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, bringing the total number of NCLH ships on order at Fincantieri to ten.

Fast growing UK high-speed ferry builder Wight Shipyard Co., based at East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, has delivered its first export order – the 39m, 38-knot passenger ferry TWIN CITY LINER to Austria’s Central Danube Region Marketing & Development. The 250-passenger capacity vessel left Cowes earlier this afternoon, 11 January, for its delivery voyage to Vienna under its own power and will enter daily service at the end of March running between Vienna and Bratislava.

AS Tallinna Sadam 2018 Q4 and full year passenger and cargo flows

In 2018 Q4 5.0 million tonnes of cargo and 2.3 million passengers passed through the harbours of Tallinna Sadam. Compared to the same period of previous year, the cargo volume increased 2.0%, mainly due to liquid bulk. The growth of the number of passengers decreased by 1.0%. The number of ship calls grew by 4.8% to 1841 calls.

Tallink and TalTech to collaborate on developing smart ship solutions

Tallink Grupp and the TalTech started a scientific collaboration with the aim of developing various innovative solutions for Tallink Grupp’s vessels over the next two years. According to the two-year 100,000 Euro cooperation agreement, signed by Member of the Management Board of Tallink Grupp, Mr Lembit Kitter and the rector of TalTech, Mr Jaak Aaviksoo, the focus of the collaboration will be on developing the so-called „Smart Car Deck“ solutions, which would be aligned with the Smart Port solutions already in use today and would result in innovative technologies that would make the ships’ car decks and operations on the car decks more efficient.

The shipyard group MV WERFTEN is acquiring the Rostock-based Neptun Ship Design, which as Germany’s largest ship design office has enjoyed an excellent reputation worldwide for decades thanks to its impressive know-how and successful designs.

PORT OF KIEL presents annual results 2018

Kiel continues to pursue its growth course in passenger traffic posting a 4.2 % increase with 2.2 million travellers. At the same time, the port’s cargo sector was unable to match the top results of the reference period (2017: 7.4 million tons, +14.3 %). The handling performance decreased by 3.5 % to 7.15 tons of cargo in 2018.

Rolf A. Sandvik resigns as CEO of The Fjords

Rolf A. Sandvik is leaving his position as CEO of The Fjords. Sandvik, who has led the company since its formation in January 2015, has informed the board of his intention to step down. Vidar Hauståker, the Chief Financial Officer of The Fjords and Flåm AS, will act as interim general manager until a permanent replacement is recruited.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the world’s largest cruise industry trade organization, announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Adam M. Goldstein, Vice Chairman, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., as Global Chair, effective January 1, 2019. Goldstein succeeds Arnold Donald, President and CEO, Carnival Corporation & plc. who served as CLIA Global Chairman since January 2017.
