Record passenger numbers for Eckerö Line

Eckerö Line, serving the Helsinki to Tallinn route with the 2001-built FINLANDIA, has released its passenger statistics for the period January-June and it shows a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, ending at 822,000 passengers. For the month of June, the company also broke its record, carrying 169,515 passengers, bringing Eckerö Line’s market share to around 19%.

Assembly of LNG-powered COSTA SMERALDA started at Meyer Turku

On 4 July the assembly of Costa Cruises’ 182,700gt COSTA SMERALDA officially started at the Meyer Turku shipyard. The cruise ship, which will be delivered in October 2019, will be followed by a sister ship 2021.

2018 second quarter statistics for Tallink Grupp – record number of passengers in the month of June

According to the figures, Tallink transported more passengers this June than it has ever done in this month previously. The total number of passengers transported on all of the company’s routes in June was 989,445, a 1.4% increase over the same month in 2017. The month also saw new passenger records on the Estonia-Finland route with 512,077 passengers, a 1.0% increase compared to the same period in 2017, and on the Estonia-Sweden route with 101,249 passengers transported, a 3.9% increase over the same period last year.

Fjord1’s HORGEFJORD delivered

The second of the two all-electric/plug-in ferries built by Turkish Tersan shipyard for Fjord1 has been delivered and is now on her way to Norway, expected to arrive in a couple of weeks. Built to a Multi Maritime design, the 3,500-gross-ton HORGEFJORD has a 399-passenger and 120-car capacity. With a 112.5m length, she is slightly shorter than the 122.1m MØKSTRAFJORD, equally built by Tersan to service the same Krokeide-Hufthamar route. MØKSTRAFJORD was delivered earlier this year.

ORIANA set to leave P&O Cruises fleet in August 2019

With two new large cruise vessels set to join its fleet in 2020 and 2022 respectively, British cruise line P&O Cruises was always going to divest itself of smaller, ageing tonnage. The company announced that its 69,840-gross-ton ORIANA would be leaving the fleet in August 2019 following her last cruise for the company, a Norway and North Cape cruise from Southampton, departing 22 July 2019.

Stena Line “fully committed” to Fishguard ferry terminal in Wales

Stena Line has said that it is “fully committed to supporting and developing” its Fishguard ferry terminal following serious concerns about the Swedish company’s future intentions at the port after it confirmed on 20 June that it would not be investing in a new GBP 5 million linkspan at the port. The work in installing the new linkspan would have closed the ferry port for three months in early 2019. Local councillors described it a “worrying time” for the town.
