Yesterday, 15 March, the first steel was cut for SEVEN SEAS SPLENDOR at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona. Due for delivery in early 2020, she is a sister to the 2016-delivered SEVEN SEAS EXPLORER.
Pella Sietas Werft to build LNG-powered Lake Constance ferry
‘Stadtwerke Konstanz’, operators of the Konstanz-Meersburg ferry service, has signed a contract with Pella Sietas Werft for the construction of an LNG-powered double-ended inland ferry with a capacity exceeding 60 CEUs and 700 passengers.
Færgen might charter HAMMERSHUS to replace HAMMERODDE
As HAMMERSHUS will be delivered more than two months ahead of Molslinjen/Bornholmslinjen taking over the Bornholm concession from Færgen on 1 September, the latter operator has requested the Danish Ministry of Transport and Molslinjen/Bornholmslinjen to charter HAMMERSHUS, replacing the 2005-built HAMMERODDE which has a lower passenger capacity.
MSC charters ARK FORWARDER for Gioia Tauro-Radès service
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has chartered the Stena RoRo-owned ARK FORWARDER and introduced her between Gioia Tauro and Radès. Unlike earlier reported, the 2,715-lanemetre ro-ro freighter will be used for container shipments only and will not carry any rolling cargo, MSC said in a statement issued on 15 March.
Drydocks World completes drydocking and mini-refit of AIDA Cruises’ AIDAstella – a first for the cruise industry in the Arabian Gulf
Rostock-based cruise line AIDA Cruises has completed the USD multi-million drydocking and refit of its 2013-built AIDAstella in Dubai to ready the vessel for her new summer season of cruises in the Mediterranean, homeported in Palma de Mallorca. This is the first time a shipyard in the Arabian Gulf has carried out such work on a cruise vessel.

FosenNamsos Sjø’s LAGATUN, built to a Multi Maritime MM 101 FE EL design, left the Montex Shipyard in Poland on 9 March with destination Norway for final outfitting at the Kleven Myklebust shipyard.

No sooner had Trasmediterranea announced its fast ferry service linking Gandia with Sant Antoni in Ibiza would continue on to Palma than Baleària announces that its own fast ferry service, this time linking Denia with Ibiza City, will also continue on to Palma.
Norled wins tender and confirms the construction of two newbuilds
The tender for three Norwegian ferry routes in Troms county has been won by Norled. Two high-speed ferries will be built for this purpose.
First steel cutting for Brittany Ferries’ LNG-powered HONFLEUR
Brittany Ferries and builder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) today, 12 March, celebrated the first steel cutting of HONFLEUR, FSG's yard number 774 which is slated for delivery to the leading French ferry operator in May 2019.
Naviera Armas charters the AL ANDALUS EXPRESS
With the drydock season in full swing, Naviera Armas has turned to FRS’s AL ANDALUS EXPRESS to cover for other vessels which are drydocking prior to the summer high season.
Algérie Ferries confirms ro-pax order at GSI
Algérie Ferries (ENTMV) has signed a USD 175 million newbuilding contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for the construction of a 1,800-passenger and 600-car ro-pax.
Greek ferries change hands
Both the IONIAN SKY and ANDREAS KALVOS have found new owners. Laid up for quite some time, the former ship has been acquired by Medferry Shipping, whereas the latter will join Kefalonian Lines as the company’s fourth ship.
