NORRÖNA gains access to shore power during calls in Iceland
FerryPort of Seyðisfjörður, where Faroese Smyril Line calls weekly for eight months a year as part of the North Atlantic route between Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland, can now offer shore power. ShoreLink has supplied a shore power system to the port, enabling Smyril Line’s ferry NORRÖNA to shut down its auxiliary engines while alongside.
Iceland’s energy mix is based entirely on thermal and hydropower-based renewable energy, resulting in significant CO2 reductions, while local particulate emissions from the ferry in Seyðisfjörður are also substantially reduced. NORRÖNA has extended port stays in Seyðisfjörður during the shoulder seasons, lasting more than a day and a half.
