News in pictures: bad luck for LUCKY STAR
FerryToday ro-pax veteran LUCKY STAR was beached in Aliaga. Many ferry professionals will remember this ferry, either from the Baltic or the English Channel.
She was built by Schichau Unterweser in 1976 as GEDSER, for the Gedser-Travemünde route.
In 1986 she was sent to the Ramsgate-Dunkerque route, first as VIKING 2, later as SALLY SKY. She introduced the Baltic ferry concepts ("Smörgasbord") and quality on the English Channel.
For Holyman Sally she operated on Ramsgate-Oostende as EUROTRAVELLER, and later for TransEuropa Ferries as LARKSPUR.
Once this company was stopped she was sold for Mediterranean use on the Igoumenitsa-Korfu-Brindisi route in 2014.
In September 2014 she was sold again to Velenio Shipping, a Greek company. She was renamed LUCKY STAR but never sailed again.
